Crossing the English Channel?

I'm travelling from France to the UK in mid September. If you could use the services of a reasonably experienced sailor, or if you feel like generously allowing an old Aussie a ride on your craft, I'd welcome your reply.

I'm 61 and am travelling on an EU passport with UK citizenship, so the paperwork's all in order. Since I sail my 28 footer out of Melbourne into Bass Strait, I'm at home with nasty weather.

There is a rally of UK sailors organized by Yachting Monthly to Cherbourg from various South Coast ports. The dates are 8-9 September. You would not have any problem, I think, getting a ride from someone there, if you can get to Cherbourg.
