Re: Cargo Capacity of Sailboat

Historically the displacement of a vessel was pure guess work until the development of the GHS computer program by Graheme H Shannon (now retired) of AVIA designs of North Vancouver. Grahame sold this too another company years ago for further development. My best guess is Creative Systems, Inc. - Creators of GHS, the world-famous PC-based simulator for ships, yachts, docks, drilling platforms, buoys and tanks

Thus an answer to the question have the lines drawings of a Bristol 41.1 been fed into the GHS programme would give the right answer to incredible degrees of accuracy.

Re: Cargo Capacity of Sailboat

Might be an idea to watch out for down flooding risks, IE bilge pump overboards, toilets and sinks etc. Possibly rudder seal as well.
Good luck with it.

Re: Cargo Capacity of Sailboat

You might want to delay a bit longer, say till end of October at the minimum, there's already another tropical depression brewing to the south and forecasting to head up towards The Bahamas possibly. Wouldn't want to get caught overloaded in something like that. We typically drop our waterline 2-3' every year on our 37 ft cat as we leave Florida provisioned for 2-3 winter months in The Bahamas. Just keep eating, drinking and partying and you eventually sail faster.
Keep good polaroid sunglasses on while moving and only in good daylight hours once your on The Bank, so you can see and avoid debris along with picking out shallow areas to avoid.
