Bluewater Cruisers for under $15,000

Hello

I'm new to this forum and here is my first post.

I intend to buy a 30' - 40' Bluewater Cruiser in the near future to begin a new chapter in my life.

I have some experience on boats however none of this is on sailboats. I intend to learn to sail over the next year while becoming familiar with whatever boat I buy through maintenance and short jaunts on the Northern California coast. Within a couple of years I would like to go southwest to Hawaii and beyond.

I want a strong hull that is seaworthy in nasty seas and capable to carry me around the world with my sailing skills.

I have a hundred questions but first I have to settle on a boat.

I would very much appreciate some input from experienced sailors / boat owners.

Welcome to the forum. I'm one of those armchair cruisers, but having read thousands of hours of posts here, I can come up with some ideas.
1. Buy a boat from someone who has just done what you want to do,
i.e. sailed to HI or beyond. Unless they were crazy (possible), it would be a boat capable of doing it.
2. Read through thousands of posts asking the same question, they came up at least once a week if not every few days. That would be 50-100 threads to read the same advice.
3. Look at boats for sale at your price, and see where they have been,
and ask advice for that specific boat.
4. Come to your senses, and buy a motorhome and travel the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

Most boats will circumnavigate , you can't just buy a boat that relieves you of the need to be able to competently sail around the world. This is the newbie mistake , looking for a boat to protect them from themselves. , doesnt exist. The more yiu sail the more you realise ( a) what YOU like in a boat (b) what things you don't like , everything in between boils down to compromises

This sort of equates to what you are asking....

I would like to find an airplane that is capable of flying me all over the world and I want to spend about 15,000.00 ....I will learn to fly later I just want to go ahead and find the plane now.

The chances or finding that plane that you would want to safely take you across oceans when you really have not done any real research on what you are up against is the point that you are at right now.

I suggest doing a great deal of reading before you invest in any boats.

Maybe he's a Troll.. maybe he's not..
I do know however that folk learn in different ways..
He's stated its a 'New Chapter' in his life... maybe this involves needing somewhere to live while/as well as achieving an ambition/dream of learning to sail near and far.
I see no harm in him buying an old cheap boat to live on and fix up while he learns the basic skills... he'll come into contact with other sailors 24/7 which will speed up knowledge gathering etc....
Apart from which... its his money to blow as he chose's and as far as I'm concerned I'm happy to help if I can...
Till I feel I'm wasting my time and puny brainpower...
EDIT: Remember... most get into this after scanning sailing magazines for years written by so called 'experts' chasing the Holy $ and calling all kinds of crap 'Blue water'... the most over used and least informative term in marine journalism...
