Jim , I can't explain how it happened either, all I know is the wind was phenomenal and words can't describe it. I don't know the wind speed but I know 60 knots is just a breeze to what I had.

For another longshot option, Alan Lucas's "Cruising the Coral Coast" claims there is a permanent fresh water stream running out onto the beach at approx S22 28'14 E150 45'15. Bit of a run in the dinghy, however.

Due to a plumbing failure, we ended up on the way to Island Head extremely low on water in bad weather and aimed for this beach but with a 30 kn SE breeze it wasn't going to happen, so I can't verify exactly where the stream is although I know of others that have been there and seen it.

If things are critical, I'd still hit up the VMR as they should be able to arrange a trawler or someone out fishing that way to drop off a jerry of water to you. Maybe even the army could do it if anyone's at the training ground.

Reefmagnet I can't find that reference in my 8th edition. It's a bit too far anyway, Pearl Bay is closer. Thanks anyhow.

You know, after I posted the other day and people posted about the stream at Pearl Bay I started to think that maybe my version, which is a 70's or early 80's print is in error, as it makes no mention of the water at Pearl Bay, yet describes the Pearl Bay anchorage. The book's on the boat at the moment so I'll have to do a double check next weekend. I remembered the particular beach because I was keen to grab some water on the way past at the time!

I just looked at the 9th edition. It doesn't mention fresh water at Pearl bay. But it doesn't mention the stream of fresh water crossing the beach at Freshwater bay either.

Another possible cyclone on the way. At moment weather bureau has issued a monsoon warning for far nth Qld it is heading towards between Cairns and Cape tribulation

The early prediction for Marcia was Gladstone a hundred miles from where it did hit.

I had a porta bote tied down on the deck when I rolled , it survived unscathed . The helicopter tried to blow it away but I thought if the cyclone couldn't it would be OK. Anyhow off to try and find some water.

What an incredible survival story you must have to tell. Has your cat sustained much damage? What are your plans to repair and can you get out of there unaided?

Would love to hear more details of your 'adventure'. How are you accessing the internet to post on CF? Are you able to post any pictures?

Everything above deck level is smashed, no serious hull damage found so far. One rudder should be OK, motor should be OK , steering pedestal is broken but can repair I think.
I'm getting internet via my phone with an external antenna, weak signal not enough to upload photo's.
I was on my way to look for water when a dingy arrived from another yacht. They were able to supply water and a few other things, so things are looking up.

Ian, that's great news! It's always good to hear when the cruising folks help each other out... as almost always happens when it is at all possible.
