St thomas grocery close to anchorage

New to the USVI and looking for advice on grocery stores that are accessible by dingy. Is the grocery in crown bay marina reasonable? Presently in Christmas cove but considering honeymoon bay or somewhere on water island. Dinghy is 10'rib with 18hp so distance is not too much of an issue as long as water is reasonably calm.

Not in any of the locations you mentioned , but the Pueblo in Charlotte Amalie is one option. http://goo.gl/maps/roSup

If going I Pueblo where would you land a dinghy that's close? Honeymoon bay on water island as an anchorage too far to get o pueblo?

What about marina market in red hook? Anchor outside red hook off vessup beach and dinghy in to American yacht harbor or some other dinghy dock?

Don't mind a mile or so dinghy trip as long as water is reasonably protected as we have 18hp.

Guessing the market in crown bay is over priced?

Otherside of the island but yes, right across the street from the Independent boat yard / La vida Marina is a grocery store. Its not only walkable, if you tip the guy he will bring your stuff down to the dinghy and help you load it. Only catch is that its expensive since its the only game in down at that end of St. Thomas.

Your saying the market across the st from independent boat yard is convenient but expensive? Or are you saying the marina market in red hook is pricey?

Ted,

You can lock up your dingy at the coast guard station, right on the waterfront. Take the bus (1$) or a gypsy cab (5-6$) to the Kmart and the pueblo near the cruise ship dock.

You can either anchor right off the cg station, or stay off water island and dingy over.

Could you anchor off yacht haven grande, land a dinghy there and walk straight to pueblo? Or anchor at water island say Druif ( honeymoon) bay and dinghy to yacht haven grande?

Marina Market has been out of business for awhile.

The store across from Independant/La Vida Marina is called Food Center. It is more expensive than most other stores but it is clean and has a good selection of food and has very close access via dinghy.

Gourmet Gallery is in Crown Bay. Smaller than Food Center and even more expensive.

Pueblo in downtown is walking distance from Yacht Haven Grande.

We have done this three or four times. We anchor at Charlotte Amalie, dinghy over to the dinghy dock at Yacht Haven, and then walk to Pueblo and Kmart (cheapest rum in the Virgin Islands).

If you anchor closer to Crown Bay marina their market is well stocked but a little more expensive than the Pueblo. And I think they charge to use the dinghy dock but I'm not sure since we've stayed at the marina the two times we were there.

You can anchor in Honeymoon bay, dinghy over to Crown Bay marina to their dinghy dock. About a block away is the Pueblo grocery store that's reasonable- much cheaper than marina grocery store although they has some beer at a lower cost. Everybody takes a grocery cart back to the marina gate. It's about 150 ft to the dinghy dock. Did it at least 5 times last year. Tim --Northstar T41/43cb

From looking at the map it looks like a bit of a hike from crown bay marina around to pueblo. If I'm correct pueblo is behind yacht haven grande meaning one would walk from crown bay across the waterfront past customs and the ferry dock. Am I missing something?

What you are missing is that there are several Pueblo's there. One is near Yacht Haven another is near Crown Bay Marina in a section call sub base. It's less than 1500' from the marina. Tim --Northstar--T41/43

That is very true. We have provisioned at the Pueblo behind Crown Bay many times while waiting for guests to arrive.

Wonderful news. Will make for water island tomorrow and honeymoon bay. Need to get some gas for the dinghy so crown bay fuel dock should do. Thanks everyone.
