Yep, I do but you made me go back and look at how I expressed it. It could well have been taken the way you quipped about it.

Check out Thom Burns at Northern Breezes sailing. He runs a sailing school and has boats in Bayfield Wi. Perfect for sailing the Apostle Islands on Lake Superior(beautiful sailing)! He runs flotillas, has bareboat or Captained charters. He also does flotillas in the BVI and southern Florida. Worth checking him out!⛵️⛵️⛵️

«*Sell the wife*»
If you post some pictures of her we could start talking about price

Two Camels? I would have thought you would trade a whole pack for her.

Don’t sell the wife. Some are serious, some joking.

If you have an outdoor wife that’s not wacko, you keep her at all cost. And, the cost should be negligible; marriage is 20/80, you get a good one it goes down to 21/79. Last count there were six eligible outdoor women who weren’t nut jobs in USA.

As Calif Ted suggested, the San Juans would likely be “the ticket” for pristine natural beauty. As also pointed out it’s not easy to get a bareboat charter with low experience. SW Florida would probably be the easiest place to “break in” for a bareboat gig. Lots of good places there, but not so pristine these days. For real adventure, the California Channel Islands departing Santa Barbara or Channel Islands harbor. Not good for rank beginners, but totally natural around most of Santa Cruz Island. Something to work up to.

If so, would a potential buyer get her surveyed?

Happy New Year!!!!

It's not the survey I'd be worried about, it's the sea trial!

La Paz Mexico has charters, and is very close to beautiful isolated anchorages, with absolutely no bars or concessions.

Yeah. So if it’s late summer through early fall go to PNW; if late fall through early spring go to FL if wishing to stay in the States. If mid-fall to mid-spring go to La Paz and if winter through spring, the Caribbean for close foreign destinations

Other qualifying summer destinations are in the northeastern US and Canada. But crowded around New England destinations. The Canadian Maritimes are good I’ve been told; British Columbia is the PNW.

Literally, how do you find the beautiful anchorages? The hikes, etc? The good snorkling? There were a few specifics suggested above, which is great, but is there a more general resource? A good book, a website, etc? I am trying to get to the point where I can plan out a sort of itinerary, (or at least a vision), and I think most of the easily accessible information is for major attractions (the baths, particular bars) which sound overrun.

Thanks!!
There are usually cruising guides, books but also on line, for most cruising destinations. The most extensive one I know of is Waggoner’s guide to the Pacific Northwest. There are others. Just Google search on cruising guide. Also, the area charter companies can direct you to local cruising guides. In addition, the charter companies have 7-day “plans” for sites to visit in the local area. Of course, you’ll be directed to where the other charterers will go.

As for getting away from it all, the basic formula parameters: level of difficulty, level of comfort, and accessibility. Sites that are further from HQ, or are otherwise difficult to reach, and are colder/rougher are those where you won’t find many people. That’s why the northern California Channel Islands are such a good destination. Generally in the 60’s deg F, windy so can be rough at times, anchor only (no moorings or docks except one dinghy dock at Prisoners), no services, no concessions except at Scorpion Ranch where they rent kayaks and snorkeling gear. No animals (dogs) permitted ashore, access by special permit in some areas; beach landings by dink. It’s what you say you are looking for, but it’s a far reach. Thousands of sailboaters in So. California but few that spend much time out there even though the islands are not far offshore. There is a cruising guide. Brian Fagan’s cruising guide to central and southern California including the California Channel Islands. Grab a copy and start reading.

October to early November is still Hurricane season in La Paz/Baja.

British Columbia is not the "Pacific Northwest". It is in the Southwest of Canada and the Northeast Pacific.

Yes, but the mid-point of calendar fall is Nov 5 or 6; so going fwd from there, etc.

The Pacific Northwest is basically a geographic region historically defined variously by geomorphology and bioregions, a large portion the area of which is made up now by the province of British Columbia. It’s not a “politically-defined” area. Similar to the Salish Sea in regional meaning.

Re: Sell the Wife: Off Grid/Beautiful Nature in a 7-day Starter Charter?

What sold my wife on the cruising life were two things:

Attending lots of seminars given by women sailers. We live in Seattle, so this was easy come boat show time. This convinced her it is all about knowledge and experience, nothing more. If these women could do it, so could she.

Next, she took a week long learning cruise in the San Juans (PNW), women only, captain included. Men tend to “take over”, and my wife would often let them - sailing is hard work! A women only event ensured all the students did it themselves.

Funny story - when they came into a marina, the captain warned them that men would jump up and take their dock lines if they let them. Sure enough, my wife stepped onto the dock, dock line in hand, and a man snatched it from her hands, “helping”. It took her three requests to get that line back. Finally she said “that line is costing me good money and you’re starting to piss me off!”
