Saint Andrews Sound - ICW Chartbook - R32

The icw chartbook appears to show the course line on the wrong side of r32 in Saint Andrews Sound Georgia. Does anyone know why?

No, I don't know why, but I think it is wrong. That shoal reaches out pretty far, and I'm pretty sure you want to go east of it.

Does your chart show G "31A"?

The magenta line is something I don't take too literally, in this case, it is pretty obvious the water is deeper east.

This is one of the few cases you want to follow the magenta line, at least it was last fall. See Active Captain.

Are you sure? I just looked at Active Captain comments, and it seems to indicate that they went east of the marker, and "ignored the chart" but honored the ATN's. The magenta line there means one would take the red nun to port while sailing south on the ICW, and that is not correct. Additionally, the next marker in sequence is a green marker "31A", and is east of R "32".

Hopefully some of the ICW regulars will chime in, I'm curious now!

Just found this on Cruisers net:

Cruiser's Net Archive IMPORTANT – Marker/Charting Confusion and Increased Shoaling on AICW’s Passage Through Georgia’s St. Andrew Sound (St. M. 690)

Looks like it is a mystery as to the placement of the line, or whether R "32" is used as a sea buoy despite it acting like an ICW marker.

It seems that you may be correct here Finestere, the shoal to the northeast has extended. Whatever the answer is, smart money stays close to the marker. I would not want to pass a shrimp boat wandering through there.

Why don't you go on the outside from Brunswick to the St. Marie's river or the other way around if going north. Easy one day trip, class A inlets and you miss this whole mess. That's what we did on the way north.

Finistere we did exactly that several times when Jekyll creek was shoaling. St Simons to St Marys is a short day and my preferred way of travel. I think St. Andrews is easy enough to negotiate if you are sensible and take your time though.
