Sailing For Culture: Help Save my Cruising Dream

It was 0°F here last night! We are froze in SOLID. We need some cruising motivation. It's sooooo cold I'm going to Home Depot, just to find a warm toilet seat. And my Wife is complaining I'm lacking culture. Can you believe it?

So we are on a Kultire Kick. We need something balmy (in any sense of the word) to look forward to. Something accessible to live aboards.

I'm looking for a list of museums and aquariums between here (Philadelphia) and.......? Let's just say Miami for a start, but anything in the balance of the Carribean would work also. I'm thinking along the lines of the Dali Museum in St. Pete. Great old churches might do the trick also.

I love the Mel Fisher museum in key west. Emeralds are goegeous. Miami has great dining and theatre. I once saw Topol performing in FOTR there oh and Davey Jones as the artful dodger. Plus Miami is warm.
One ofy favorite restaurants in broward county just made the list for national historic sites, the MaiKai wonderful food and show with rum drinks.

IMHO there is the least of amount of culture to be found in the state of Florida ( St. Aug. a little) compared to the rest of the East Coast.... just saying

In the northeast try the mma and the cloisters in nyc.

Nice little traditional boat meuseum in Beaufort, NC... or.. there was 10yrs ago..
Its also where you can get a free car for a few hours to shop in Moorehead across the way..

And NewYorkCity is great. The restaurants and theatre are the best. China town is interesting as well. Ive been waiting to go to the cloisters for years since seeing the mma. Too much to see and do in nyc on short air trips for me. Ive thought of sailing there from fla just for the cloisters, but i love midieval history and art. Enjoy whatever you do.

In Marathon, your sentiments might be understandable. Or not. Your broad generality overlooks (or you have never seen) life elsewhere in Florida not the least of which includes, but is not limited to, Sarasota where there is a terrific Art/Theater/Dance/Film/Music scene which rivals, or exceeds, other, larger (and more crowded/busy/costly) venues. On the other hand, Marathon has its own attributes and attractions and a "Culture" all its own. One makes one's choices, No?

Considering your first two sentences, how much more motivation could one possibly need? Frankly, I can't understand why anyone would stay north of 28º N between November and April.

Not to far from your present location, Baltimore...
Baltimore Mus. of Art...very large if not largest collection of Matisse and many others.
Liked the rooms of early american/colonial furniture. Near John Hopkins Univ.
Always worth a couple of culture points, walking around a university.
Above is short bus ride from inner harbor.
Also Baltimore on the inner harbor American Visionary art mus. and
may be cheating but also close to inner harbor Fred. Douglass Maritime park Mus.
Well it is a museum.
Near Phila. 45 minutes north...must see if you can get there...Seward Johnson, Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton,N. J.. Best wait till spring for this but worth many culture points, keep an eye out for the peacocks walking around the courtyard of
the cafe.
As indicated above N.Y. (easy train ride) besides MM of Art, is Frick collection,
Mus. of Nat. hist., Guggenheim, MONA (modern), Morgan library, Whitney
and on and on. On Fridays, many of these are free or discresionary donation.
Further south the whole city of Charleston.

The Admiral could use a little carrot on a stick, something to look forward to.

Meanwhile, it's a sunny 73* day here, my dogs are playing in the yard.

Isn't there a TV show called "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia"? Apparently the show's producer or creator has a problem with Philadelphia and it's inhabitants, based on the characters in that show.
