Panama Canal transit

The admiral and I have the opportunity to help crew a friends 54' through the canal, east to west. We have owned our Vagabond 42 for 17 years and sailed it all over the Caribbean. I would love to do it but the Admiral has two concerns, our personal safety in Panama getting to and from the boat (Colon) and if she can do the line handling required. Would anyone (especially other Admirals) like to comment.
