North Carolina ICW Updates ?

Moving a sailboat with 5' draft from Myrtle Beach to Washington NC. I'm interested in knowing if the last Hurricane caused any new shoaling in the NC section of the ICW.

Thanks!

Since noone has replied I thought I'd chime in with what little I know.

I'm in a boatyard on the ICW just North of Beaufort. The boatyard is called Bock Marine, in case you are curious. Here at Bock, and in the surrounding areas the hurricane (Earl) had little, if any impact. We barely got any rain and the winds were very mild. They did get more of the storm on the Outer Banks, but the ICW is well inland of the coast in the areas where they saw any storm impact. I would be surprised if Earl made any changes at all in the ICW in between you and Washington.

Hope that helps,

Jonathan

You shouldn't be any more cautious than before Earl. At 5 ft you can touch now and again. From where you are to Washington, NC is pretty good as far as general ICW conditions go. You have a lot of big water and some long canals. Now through Oct can be nice weather if you mind the storm forecasts. You could find a good window and be able to complete the whole trip doing 60 statue miles a day if you get up really early every day after it's fully daylight. Check the tide on the major rivers and if you can take advantage it can make a huge difference.
