Jersey Shore, USA

I will be single handing back to Annapolis from long island. Jersey shore is unpleasant. How far off shore should I be to avoid the tortured coast. I've done this several times and am considering going from montauk or block island as that is usually longer but not as uncomfortable.

We stayed just a couple of miles off when I made the trip and had no problems.

Cannot remember if it was Jersey or another section of the coast but in spots along the east coast we had to keep a lookout for unlit buoys after dark.

After seeing Jersey Shore on MTV I don't think crossing the Atlantic will get you far enough away from it's unpleasantness.

I'm on the ct river looking at wind predictions. A west wind would be fine for the shore. Any other direction seems like it's ugly. Yes there are bouys with reflective material near fish havens etc... I'm leaning tword block island. Rets there and then hop to henlopen.

Over the next few days you will see west winds beginning friday night and into saturday...north winds possible on sunday and east winds on monday....If there's a time to transit the coast...this looks as good as it gets...while the prevailing SW is not in place...
