Cruising with a dog to Cayman Islands

We are planning to go to the Cayman Islands and have way too much paperwork already. My question to the group is:
How 'sticky' are they about the 14 day requirement?
We are currently in Marathon Florida, planning to leave this week however, given we will be going around the western tip of Cuba and planning to anchor most nights, at 6 knots it is very unlikely we can get there within the 14 day time limit. This is primarily due to obtaining the International Health certificate (mail time).
Anyone with recent experience please let us know how you managed the problem. Any other suggestions welcome.

Re: Cruising with a dog to Cayman Islands

Hi Dave,

Just call the Cayman Islands Department of Agriculture (DOA). Tel: (345) 947 3090, Fax: (345) 947 6501 or

Tell them your situation and they will give you a solution. They are very friendly and understanding.

Most of the rules are designed for people arriving by plain so they are willing to make exceptions for cruisers.

We had no problems bringing our dog into the country. Just had to fill out the paperwork.
