Cruising in Late Hurricane Season

We are planning to embark from Florida on a 54ft ketch, eventual destination Virgin Islands. We will be in Florida by early October and we're hoping to leave before November. Potentially sailing from Eleuthera to St. John. The general consensus seems to be that one should not leave earlier than October 15th. Is it safe in late October? The boat is not speedy and would take at least 10 days to get to the USVI. Any tips about hurricane season, cruising routes, or jumping off points, would be appreciated. Thanks!

Re: Cruising in Late Hurricane Season

Late October is still risky, end of november could be fine since CV canes usually end at late october , mid october end november Gulf lows are a posible risk to.

Lenny and Mitch if i remember , late season monsters,, i will say until mid november end november dont take nothing for granted..... Cheers.

Still risky in October. Take your chances and pay your dues if you get it wrong. http://www.weather.com/storms/hurric...hreat-20140930
