Any experienses "sailing" from Med to Germany via canal routes? What is the maximum draught? (we have 2-2,2m)
Best time to start?

Over 1.4 m things get troublesome , also you need to check air draft

Re: Throug Europe via canal-routes

Lived in Germany for a while. Canals froze in the depths of winter and bitterly cold. Suggest you follow the sun north in the Spring.

Here are info to french waterways but a draught of 1,60 plus...impossible, even in spring.

Voies navigables de France

Agreed, looks like a non starter with a 2.2m draft, perhaps truck it instead.

*Calais or Le Havre to the Mediterranean.

Re: Through Europe via Canal-Routes

Anyway it´s a long trip.

alternative: Black Sea and Danube or truck.
Bavaria Yachts are often delivered by truck to Med. Usually the trucks return empty to Germany.
Suppose you can get a transport at reasonable price.
F.e. Sleepy Yachttransporte

Good luck

Danube upward can be diff because of strong currents, especially autumn to spring. watch pegelstand (gauge )

for Austria look here: doris.bmvit: DoRIS
From Iron Gates (Romania/Serbia) lower down the mast
List of crossings of the Danube - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

for Germany: https://www.elwis.de/gewaesserkunde/index.html
here you can get infos to gauges of other countries too

Announcements for skipper:
https://www.elwis.de/mvc/main.php?modul=nfb

keep me up to date if you like, PM me

Re: Through Europe via Canal-Routes

Hello to all.

Has anyone been asked to produce International Certificate of Competence on the Mast Route in the Netherlands or further south on canals into Belgium or France?

Re: Through Europe via Canal-Routes

GM, Thanks for the welcome. I've lurked a bit and can see it is a friendly place with great info for neophytes!

I have to bring a boat south from Amsterdam by canal but have lost track of my old USPS certificates and wonder if I will run into trouble.
