A government concerned about their citizens health ... acting proactively to remedy that ...
There MUST be rainbows and unicorns too!

A lot of this is driven by the Talking Heads who are looking for new ways to make stories and motivated by 'Contacts' (people don't seem to have friends anymore) and wish to promote their own agenda (money) so we get a never ending stream of Diet, Health, Safety, Confidence builders etc appearing on the news to tell us what we know.. and convince us that we don't know because we are to stupid to know..
Somewhere along the way it gets lost that people make their own choices in life.. sadly there's always some egotistical prat who knows better than us.
Statistics can work anyway one chose's to twist them.. and surveys are manipulated in the phrasing of the question..

Boat: So many boats to choose from. Would prefer something that is not an AWB, and that is beachable...

Just the way they decided to sell it. It's all in the marketing.

As you say above, and I agree with, the government is using the health of its citizens as an excuse for this law. (Per the OP.)

My position is that government uses all the arrows in its quiver to expand itself. Some of those arrows are labeled, "health," "welfare,""environment."

Is government disingenuous? Absolutely.

Enjoy the sunshine.

Government likes to expand itself. There is little historical evidence to the contrary.
Unless it relates to the Motor, Oil and Nuclear Industry's.. then its everything else's fault

Re: No more DIY antifouling in EU countries?

sadly these people in Europe put themselves in a position of authority, and could not organise an affair in a brewery ,never mind trying to tell the rest of us how to run our lives, whilst collecting their big salaries, most if in business would be bankrupt, the quicker uk departs Europe and gets out of these unreasonable cockups the better.

Re: No more DIY antifouling in EU countries?

I think the "safety" theme is a red herring. When something makes no logical sense, follow the money. Someone (the boat yard owners & workers collective for instance) thinks they will make more money by forcing us to pay for professional services and paint mark-ups. I assume the paints will be controlled substances you cannot buy or import.

Re: No more DIY antifouling in EU countries?

Getting re-elected to that beautiful gravy train drives every single thing all governments and all individual politicians do.

If a politician motivated by more than greed exists anywhere on this planet he, she or it is there for the respect, position and power - just like the priests.

Blowhard, posturing, pink-skinned blimps strutting and boasting like boxers come election time - give me a break.

Democracy gives us the politicians we deserve though, so we're to blame.
Democracy always was, is and always will be a crock until education is universal and decent enough that voters can see them for what they are.

Technologically we're racing ahead but societally & culturally I think we're dumbing down alarmingly. This is exactly where politicians need us to be though - compliant, gadgeted up and unable to tell **** from Shinola.

No offence if you're not seeking public office

Call this a rant? This is nothing...

Re: No more DIY antifouling in EU countries?

IIRC you can't do your own antifoul in New York State either!

I hope this is one of those daft EU regulations that gets ignored by most sane people. Here in the UK we suffer from a 'gold plating effect'.

Any directive is added to and burnished so the politician or bureaucrat can increase their fiefdom. An aspect that has not featured in the current memebership debate.
