Melbourne, the most liveable city in the world

Approximately 10 grand a year for wet berth, depending on where you are,

Weather, between -3 C and 45 + C. We get 5 seasons in a day,

On a real hot day and the weather drops 20 Degrees in 20 minutes, People drop dead in the street,
My Multihull lives here,

I live 40 miles to the east in the sticks, In the hills, I would not live in Melbourne itself under any circumstances, Or suburbia anywhere for that matter,

You can get a job here if you want or need one, Public transport stinks, Especially if your in the outer suburbs,

I would rather live up north where its always warm,

Melbourne does not have Crocs or Taipans, They are up north,

But we do have drop bears, Hahahahaha

We do have Bass Straight if you want to travel to any where other than Melbourne's Port Phillip Bay.

Both can be pleasant sailing on good days,

Tell me this. If a Melbourne resident wandered off into the night alone, and got his ass et by a croc, what would it look like?

Other that a heated case in the zoo,
the nearest Crocs to Melbourne are at least 1000 miles straight north, More like 1500 miles,

Well, as Ava Gardner said, Melbourne is not the end of the earth, but you can see it from there.

Try finding any sort of reasonable marina berth, especially a floating one. Good luck.

And sailing on Port Philip Bay, just sail around in circles with nowhere to go but back where you started.

If you are into cruising keelboats, it's one of the worse places to end up in Australia.

You can get et by crocs, bit by snakes and stomped by 'roos in Australia. And that's without leaving the airport!

Sorry, after growing up where man has no natural enemies, the name of this thread made me burst out laughing.

I haven't come across anything that can eat me here and I am still alive after quite a few years. We did have a Kangaroo about a week ago at Melbourne Airport as he hopped into the multi-level carpark but they managed to catch and remove him. Snakes? mostly in other states or the middle of the desert however we do have some in / near Melbourne that will kill you. Maybe on a boat you should be more concerned about being eaten by a Great White.

Ok, well obviously the needs of cruisers weren't taken into consideration in the latest survey!

Docklands boat show this weekend coming by the way. I wonder what they will have there???

I did my absolute best to catch a photo near Melbourne that meets your requirement for a lonely atoll, however this is the best I could do today.

These people have some across the world to this nice little anchorage in their modest motor-yacht and where was this photo taken you ask? MELBOURNE !! It's not all skyscrapers!

Some other stories for would be tourists Killer Koala

Apart from the Killer Koala & great whites, most nasties do seem to be in the north. Perhaps that is one reason not to follow the retirement crowd moving north and east.

What ribbony said, altho home for us and CatNirvana is (very modestly now) the best LITTLE town in Australia wtih sailing anywhere along the great OZ coastline and beyond...and, oh yes, we do manage a bit of rain here too from time-to-time, say 170mm in the past 48 hours!?!
