Re: Melbourne, the most liveable city in the world
Beautiful pics, of a great city, and it's fleet!
The Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU) most recent global liveability report placed Melbourne, Australia as the most livable city in the world, thanks to a widespread availability of goods and services, low personal risk, and an effective infrastructure. It does not take into account climate or the cost of living as a factor in 'liveability.'

Re: Melbourne, the most liveable city in the world
Nor does it take into account temperature, climate, average catch of lobsters per day, cost of marinas, politician idiot coefficient, etc etc etc.
Where is this headed? Photos of a cat in a city? Wow! Ausaviator, today is Oz Day and I applaud your patriotism! But this is not the venue......
Show me photos of any boat - even an FG mono - in a lonely atoll before this stuff, surrounded by sky scrapers and gin palaces.

Well spotted. I have moved it.
I don't like to see Jimbo upset so here is nice lonely anchorage that has nothing to do with Melbourne.
Not a Cat I am afraid. If you want to buy me a Gunboat I promise I will take some similar photos.

Re: Melbourne, the most liveable city in the world
Melbourne is a beautiful city indeed. I think though that "best" is very subjective. It all depends on the weightings of the dozens of different factors. And how does one decide how the factors should be weighted? Again, that is very subjective. I think each individual would weigh the factors differently according to his or her needs and personal preferences.

Re: Melbourne, the most liveable city in the world
No city is beautiful. Who voted Melbourne that? Two guys at the pub? I have visited every city over here and would not give Melbourne that credit. Much more Cities of scenic beauty in Europe for my vote. Anyhoo, who wants to live in a city? Not this little black duck, too much ugliness both animate and inanimate.
Coops.

Re: Melbourne, the most liveable city in the world
It's the most LIVEable city, not the most beautiful :-) it takes a lot into consideration like wages, facilities, employment, education and health care for example.

Re: Melbourne, the most liveable city in the world
I'd be living in Melbourne now if there'd been better employment opportunities.
My city rating is based on how pleasant it is to walk down the street and how good the public transport is. I can see why Vienna scored. Maybe I'd rate Singapore a smidge higher, but not by much.
Also, on my official "likes to bury their head in the sand" index Melbourne would come well down.

Re: Melbourne, the most liveable city in the world
Australia? Livable?
Are you kidding me? They have things that kill and eat humans in Australia!
If I told mom I was going to Australia, she'd start talking me out of it.
You can get et by crocs, bit by snakes and stomped by 'roos in Australia. And that's without leaving the airport!
Sorry, after growing up where man has no natural enemies, the name of this thread made me burst out laughing.
You should include folks from around the world in the voting.

Re: Melbourne, the most liveable city in the world
Melbourne? Livable? Depends who they asked, what they asked them, and what "liveable" means: I never trust polls I haven't skewed myself. Any mono will look like a cat if you ingest a sufficient quantity of rum. They don't distill rum in Melbourne. No regrets leaving it at all, no matter how many trimarans they have in the bay.....

Re: Melbourne, the most liveable city in the world
Hey Aus! How much are the marina fees? Most livable all depends on the fees!
Otherwise I reckon you might be right. Docklands is walking distance to city centre or the free tram. Great transport system & Superb dining.

Re: Melbourne, the most liveable city in the world
Best thing about Melbourne : if you don't like the weather wait 15 minutes, it will be completely different. (not neccessarily better though.)
I'd rather live further north.

Re: Melbourne, the most liveable city in the world
Melbourne - great, no, fantastic city to visit but surely not the worlds best! And yes, very liveable but sailing....hmm not so much
