Here's a surfers perspective on the approaching swells and breakers. What does this mean for maritime interests from the UK to France down into northern Africa? Frightening!

The Caribbean is going to get some swell from this system next week, luckily not a complete north swell (which makes a lot of normally acceptable anchorages very uncomfortable) but it will still be significant.

Sweet, just what we really needed. However, XC Weather and Passage weather aren't forecasting this as a major storm at the moment so will have to wait and see.

Maybe not, but I have gradually learned to make use of surfer and windsurfer weather resources in addition to the more typical "marine" forecasts, and have found sites like Windguru.cz, even in the "free" version, to more accurately reflect what I've found out on the water than some coastal forecasts, which, at least around here, tend to focus on the wind conditions at the weather station at the airport, which for me is a good 100-150 metres "uphill".

I think logically that when it's a body in a wetsuit facing a 20 metre breaker armed only with a surfboard, there's an incentive to be as precise as possible. While a sailboat's going to stay well clear of the shore in such conditions, the thoughtful skipper can still benefit from a forecast not specifically aimed at the sailing crowd...or so I've found.

+A1..been using these guys for a few years now.. especially for swell patterns..

Well... so much for the Code Red... what an anti climax at Nazere... waves all over the place and maximum maybe 8 metres.. not a surfer in sight...
Mind.. an onshore wind does not help any...

I think its late arriving I'm in Ireland and up in the mountains blowing like freak here
