Fujinon quote degrees of stabilisation for their binos but I can't find this info anywhere for Canon.

Fuginon stablizes through more degrees than Canon. I don't know the exact numbers. I think it's five for Fuginon and three for Canon. Both work very well.

Thanks for this. I could not find the info anywhere. The new(?) Fujinon 12x32 have a 3 degree stabilisation whereas the "more professional" ones are quoted at 5 degrees

I have for years used auto focus 7x50 binos and have been very happy with them. A friend lent me his cannon stabalized binos but I didnt find that they were so much better to warrent the BIG price. They take out your hand shaking but dont have much effect on the pitching and roling of the yacht.

I have Canon SBs and they are great! They don't help as much in extreme conditions, but day-to-day one will find them to be well worth the extra $.

Our Cannon 10x30 stabilized binocs (bottom of the line model) are quite useful to me. While the optics are not nearly as good as my Fuji 7x50s, the higher magnification and stabilized image allow my aging eyes to pick out details (ship names, buoy numbers etc) better than the Fujis when at sea.

Jim, I'm guessing you see the difference between that nice big 50mm front lens on the Fugi and the 30mm on the Canon. That 50mm lens is nice in low light situations.

Another nice thing about the Canons is the light weight. I can support them usefully with one hand whilst holding on to something with the other. Can't really do that with the Fujinons, which seem to weigh something like 50 lbs at times!

And yes, the Canons surely do not have the light gathering capability of the 7x50s nor the relatively wide field of view... but they seem to get a lot of use when both pairs are on deck and available.

Lastly, they are not waterproof, but they have now lasted something over 5 years on board.
