Victron MPPTs -Software Update

Noticed when I was down the boat at the weekend that Victron have updated the software for the smaller series of MPPTs. Its now up to V1.39 so may be worth installing the latest version if you have a MPPT from Victron.

Re: Victron MPPTs -Software Update

Victron Connect automatically does this. Just today i had to sit twiddling my thumbs while 2 MPPT controller were updated by the app. I'm not even sure it gives you the chance to skip the process.

Re: Victron MPPTs -Software Update

You must have the new super dooper version with blue tooth or something. My MPPTs need the dongle plugged in to access them. Assuming the laptop is also connected to the net, the dongle downloads the update automatically and then asks when you plug the dongle into the Victron.

Re: Victron MPPTs -Software Update

The bluetooth VictronConnect forces a software update of the SmartSolar controllers. Not a great requirement when you are offline and just want to check status.

Is there a way to check the controller status without updating?

Cheers, RickG

Re: Victron MPPTs -Software Update

That's a good question, I don't remember seeing the version number in the settings menu or on the main screen. Anyone on board at the moment who could take a look?

Does anyone know what the new version does or does not do?

The new version probably corrects that annoying "the hatch is ajar" message when you forget to close the lazarette hatch.

Pete,

The controller info and Firmware version number is available through the Setting menu; then touch the 3 vertical dot menu (upper right corner); then Product Info:

Did I understand your question correctly?

Cheers! Bill

Re: Victron MPPTs -Software Update

Mine has gone through a few updates since original purchase. Mines operates through the VictronConnect app, which links via the bluetooth connection to the controller.

It’s been a while since I’ve done one, but I thought it asked me if I wanted to proceed with an update. Maybe a setting? Or perhaps I’m wrong .

Re: Victron MPPTs -Software Update

Hi Mike,

I just performed the latest update in the last week or so. [Meaning it is a distant memory...]

Since my phone had internet access when I opened the VictronConnect app, it offered me the option of downloading the firmware update.

Once it is downloaded, I believe there was no option but to upgrade the FW as I connected to each individual controller [we have 3] via Bluetooth.

So [if I remember correctly] the FW download was optional. But once you have the download on your smart phone/tablet, the update is not optional when you try to access a controller with a lower version FW...

I'll try to remember to pay closer attention next time...

Cheers! Bill

Thanks Bill, that sounds right to my fading memory as well. The option to download was given, but once downloaded, the controller demanded the update.

Reading the Help files reveals exactly as you say.

Dave,

One thing that I noticed 2 FW versions ago [last couple of months or so...] was markedly improved BlueTooth range. [Two of our three controllers are aft in the boat and were marginal connections from the pilothouse prior to that upgrade.] I remember that was included on the list of enhancements.

I don't recall the other listed enhancements and bug fixes... and a quick search of their site didn't reveal a list either, but I bet they are available with more digging...

In case this is useful.

Cheers! Bill

It would be a major design flaw if that were true, Rick.

Mine forced me to upgrade as well last time I connected to the MPPT via BT. No option to postpone or avoid it. But it can only check if there's an update available if you're online, hence when offshore it should never lock you out.
