Solar PWM Charger & Battery Monitor

Hoping someone here can answer a question for me.

I recently installed 2 - 100 watt solar panels with a Morningstar Duo PWM controller. At the same time a Victron BMV-600s battery monitor was also installed.

Everything seems to be working fine, but one thing struck me as odd. The current displayed on the Victron seems to go up and down about a amp while charging. The reading will vary nearly every second.

Is this a function of the PWM controller?

Re: Solar PWM Charger & Battery Monitor

Never heard of that before, unless the controller is on the edge of current limiting. What voltage are the batteries at and what stage is the controller whenin this happens? Are you sure you don't have something flapping in te wind like a strap rope that could be casting slight shaddowing on a solar panel?

Re: Solar PWM Charger & Battery Monitor

T1 Terry,

First of all thanks for responding to my question.

I spent quite a bit of time on the boat over the last week and the problem has not resurfaced. I think it may have been caused by a cordless drill battery (lithium Ion) being charged off the inverter.

Thanks for your time.
