Solar, 2000R and Blue Sky MPPT

Gurus,

I've just mounted 2 solar panels and need advice on wiring.

I've got an old (but still functional) Xantrex 2000R and a Blue Sky 2000. The goal is to be able to track amps getting put back into the batteries, so the wiring from the solar panels intuitively should go panels -> MPPT - 2000R -> battery. Murphy kicks in with no PV input route on the 2000R schematic. Other info is the 2000R controls a Xantrex Charger/Inverter.

Thoughts, folks?

Thanks.

If all you care about is cumulative amps going into the battery (vs. a running tally of amps in minus amps out) then just run the shunt across the PV input cable.

I'd prefer to whole picture (as i get when hooked up to shore power or running the engine). Thanks

Then just hook up the PV input in parallel with the other input(s) (shore power, alternator). The battery monitor doesn't care where the amps are coming from.

That's what I'm thinking, suss, but it's always good to have a second opinion when the voices start taking over!

To measure all loads the shunt has to be the first item after the negative post. All loads connect to the load side of the shunt or after it.

Re: Solar, 2000R and Blue Sky MPPT

I had a problem with mine. Someone had hooked negatives to the batteries instead of after the shunt. Pos can be anywhere but all neg's have to be after the shunt. Including engine grounds.

My father told me, " if all else fails, read the directions."

Doing this myself with 660 watts and Morning Star MPPT. The manual is pretty good. All charging devices stand alone and charge the battery directly. The meters tell you Wassup.

Thanks for your input, kids. I'm assuming the shunt connection would come downstream of the controller in order to accurately reflect the 'amped' amps.
