Removing regulator from AirX

After having several problems with faulty controll boards on an AirX someone suggested removing the regulator and running it manually. This would be fine as I only want to use it mainly for the autopilot at night if its been a bit overcast, I have sufficient solar normaly.
Has anyone tried this or seen this been done before?

You would have to be a clever monkey. You could tap into the unregulated AC power perhaps but I think you would bypass all the other features. It is pretty trick inside.

I don't know specifically how to do it on an AirX, but I did this for years with a Rutland. I kept an eye on the battery voltage and tied it off if I was getting too much charging. However, the Rutland is lower output and there were no internal electronics to fiddle with.

the kiss wind generator has no regulator, claims none needed. they said a rather large battery bank can absorb all the power generated. why regulate the power when you need all you can get? had mine for 14 years. proved to be correct! I do shut it down when I leave the boat for a long time.

what would be too much charging? volts or amps?

Thanks Gordy, I might try a much simplified version using a rectifier from a Delco si21, since my tower is insulated I would not need to remake the brush holders.
