Home Made Tow Generator

Hi just wondering if anyone has put together a tow generator from a used permanent magnet motor such as a Fisher Pykel washing machine or similar. I hear they are really efficient but building a waterproof housing around it looks like a challenge.

I have used an ampair or aquair unit on a delivery trip and would like to put one together on my own boat. I bought a hamilton ferris tow rope, shaft and prop 2nd hand so I now just need the generator part.
