Generator problems at 6,000 hrs - replace?

I have a 5.5kW Northern Lights genset that has quit producing electricity. It has 6,000 hours and the diesel engine still runs fine, doesn't use a lot of oil or blow smoke. I have the mechanic coming to look at it tomorrow, but was wondering if this is the beginning of the end for this unit, or should I keep repairing it? It's been very reliable in the past. How long should I expect this type of generator to last?

I don't know the specifics of the northern lights sets, but the diesel end is the bit most subject to wear. The electrical will run forever provided the windings, regulator and bearings are ok. Get your mechanic to check the avr and connections. If it wasburnt out, you would smell it.
