AquaMarine generator?

Curious if anyone has any inputs on how these things perform?

I'm looking at a used one, they seem incredibly simple devices - kubota engine driving a 220amp alternator.

I know some of you have built your own generators with similar setup, but i'm curious if anyone has any comments on these style of DC generators?

One thing i like about these units is that my boat is basically just a DC based boat, i do have a Victron 2000w inverter/charger, and i could run a honda generator during winter months to charge, but it seems like an inboard diesel small tiny genset would be nice(especially if I have to run it during passage making).

This little generator would be basically located next to the battery bank(cable run round trip is about 10ft), so i'm not concerned about voltage loss. Add in a wakespeed regulator, carry a spare large frame replacement alternator, and i've got a decent generator.

Am I crazy for considering this? I'm pretty space constrained, so a simple setup like this appeals to me.
