Young hardworking female seeking boat Oahu to California

Hello everyone,

I am looking to get to California by October 2nd for my brother's wedding. Its kinda a "must find a way" mission. Would love if anyone knew someone I can tag along with or had room in their boat.

Alittle about me:
I am a 25 year old female with lots of expierence in manual labor, trail work, conservation, wildland firefighting, farming. I am strong and fit. I am someone reliable and responsible. Full of joy, great team player and a great cook. I dont have sailing expierence but I have open
waters expierence such as seakayaking(3 months in Patagonia).
I love to learn and ask questions so Im sure I can pick up Sailing or any other tasks quickly.
Im good company in general so consider me to be part of your crew!

I can also provide references and a resume upon request.
Messege me

Re: Young hardworking female seeking boat Oahu to California

Max, I hate to say this, but you have perhaps left it too late for this to work. The passage from Hawaii to California, for the average small to medium cruising boat, takes on the order of three weeks. Can easily go longer than that, and no skipper will ever guarantee arrival before some set date like this wedding.

Maybe if you really got lucky and found a returning race boat that was leaving tomorrow... but even then, things come up to delay the best of intentions.

You should maybe be looking at a plan B...

Sorry,

Jim

It will be much simpler to find work on the island enough to pay for a flight. Depending on weather the trip back can easily take longer than 30 days.

Re: Young hardworking female seeking boat Oahu to California

Thanks guys. I'm on it!

As for crewing my focus has changed to finding some sailing expierence on Oahu to be more eligable for a boat to NZ (oct-Jan)

Let me know if anyone has some short trips coming up and would be willing to give me an oppurtunity to gain some expierence.

And/or know any skippers heading to NZ

Re: Young hardworking female seeking boat Oahu to California

Hi Max,

I'm glad that you have seen the light re your time limited passage plan. Now it is time to consider that the new voyage you wish to make has some time constraints too: the dates that you posit, unfortunately, arrive in the south Pacific at the peak of the southern cyclone season, and then traverse some of the more active "channels" down which those cyclones often run. Not many competent cruisers would choose to do that, so you may have a problem finding this next ride as well. If a ride to NZ is what you want, leaving from Mexico in March or April is a popular time, with routing through French Polynesia and eventually arriving in NZ around November.

HOpe that you can indeed get some local rides in the meantime... and perhaps with some exposure to real cruisers you will get the feel for how the migratory waves move.

Good luck,

Jim
