Sailing from Oahu to California ?

Hello everyone, I'm wondering what the sail from the Hawaiian islands to California is like, specifically from Oahu to near Ventura... I am interested in finding a crew position for this trip in early May. Does that seem plausible, what's the weather like in the pacific during that time of the year, what route would we most likely take, and where's the best place to get started looking for a boat?

The book "World cruising Routes" by Cornwell is excellent. Gives routes and weather conditions according to the season. Too much good info to recopy here.

Contact the Waikiki Yacht Club, Hawaii Yacht Club and Kaneohe Yacht Club to ask if they can put a note on a bulletin board for you. Most likely your course will be north around the Pacific High pressure area then East and finally South toward Ventura unless your Captain decides to do a lot of motoring through the High. Later in the summer is a bit better weather but May can be ok.

hi there, could someone answer that question: which is the best and safest route weather wise (june\ july) from san fransisco to vanuatu, i can't get hold of the pilot charts for the north pacific and i need the info quickly... i know a bit about san fransisco hawai but nothing about hawai vanuatu...crossing or staying to close to the equator at this time of the year....
help!!!

I did that same crossing way back in May of 1968, and if I did it again I'd probably wait another month. Dodged squalls off and on, hit many days of no wind, and the worst conditions were in California waters going through the Channel Islands. It was still a little cold most of the time (except for the no wind days), and really cold off California.
