Crew Wanted: Sailing to Indonesia

O-Flo a 40ft hi-tech catamaran is looking for crew to sail from Falmouth, UK to Bali, Indonesia. Previous crewing experience not essential.

The skipper is a fully licensed yachtmaster ocean with over 60k sea miles. The trip will take 10-11 months via Spain, Portugal, Canary Islands, Caribbean, Panama, Galapagos, French Polynesia, Cook Islands, Tonga, Fiji, Australia and arriving in Indonesia around September.

The approximate contributions per person are £700 a month but if couples are interested it will be £500 a month (sharing a double berth). Please contact me (Toby Cokes) if you are interested.

The boat has had a total re-haul (new rig, new sails, new paint job). She has completed 2 circumnavigations and 12 Atlantic crossings.

Can you confirm that the boat is fully coded and insured?

For the kind of money you are expecting the crew to "contribute" i.e £700 (us$1,150) per month, I feel that this would be regarded as a commercial operation requiring full coding and appropriate liability insurance.

Not quite the same as a delivery trip where experienced crew get their on board expenses and travel covered as you are not requiring any experience on th part of the crew.

No, more concerned that paying passengers should be protected and safely carried - they may not be aware of the questions they should ask.

If the owner wants the boat moved half way round the world he shouldn't expect some novices to bear the cost!

OH I see. Last time I went on a commercial vessel I had to sign a waiver stating that I took full responsibility for my actions, sailing diving etc can be dangerous. So you are advocating that the paying passengers should be told sailing can be dangerous and sign the appropriate waiver form? Nice. Personally I think its a great opportunity for someone to live their dreams within a modest budget. Imagine after a few months aboard a cat with a yachtmaster skipper the skills you would pick up.
I can't really imagine this being possible in any commercial type venture. Maybe chartering a skippered vessel somwhere but 1000 bucks is likely to run out after 2 days, not a month.

If I was crew, I would prefer to be on an uninsured boat because the skipper would typically, but not always, be more careful. And by careful, I mean seamanship, not ticking boxes on some bureaucrat's form.

Why not? If I had the time, would do it. Living at home is more expensive.
