Bellingham, WA to Portland, OR

I need to get my 30 foot scampi from Bellingham to almost portland. Not going all the way, just part way up the columbia. I dont have any experience sailing, so I need someone who would be comfortable with the trip. I do have a lot of boating experience, just not sailing specific. If you live in the general area (between portland and bellingham) I will be able to arrange all the transportation. I will pay all the expenses, but I dont have enough money to pay crew. Best I can offer is some drinks or a night a out or something. Please let me know if this is possible, I know that it is getting into the wrong season for this kind of passage, but it is important that I get my boat down there before the winter. Thanks

Ouch, sailing on a schedule in that water usually is very hazardous to ones boat and health. My shop and I are in Bellingham. Where is your boat moored at present?

30', yep! Truck it! The weather's not too bad yet but is wet and cold at night. You'll know it'll make it.

Re: Bellingham, WA to Portland, OR

It is looking more and more like the time for going south out of Juan de Fuca is over early this year. I haven't seen a decent window open up for several weeks now. If you're lucky, staged at Neah Bay and ready to go, you might get a small window on Thursday/Friday. But, if you can't take advantage of that one, if it does materialize, then the patterns in general aren't looking real good. Early next week is looking downright nasty.

Really, though, with a 30 footer, I gotta agree Del, CC and the rest. Put her on a truck. You'll get her there in a day and won't have to deal with the river bar, or finding yourself somewhere on the W. coast of Vancouver Is.
