Atlantic Crossing April 2011

We are a couple in our 30's - Austrian and New Zealander.
We are leaving Guatemala mid April for Europe/Med and are looking for some extra crew to stand watches.
We are on a 36 Pearson which we sailed from Canada this year.
Possible pick up points: Guatemala, Cuba (Cabo San Antonio), Mexico, Belize, maybe Florida.
If you are interested, let us know and we'll discuss details.

Additional Info:
We're looking for someone non-smoking, absolutly no drugs, at least with some sailing-experience, preferably offshore.
No discrimination, we just don't need problems. Standing a night watch of 3 hours will be required each night.
Boat is 40 years old. No fridge. No Internet. No TV. No airconditioning. No longrange-radio. No liferaft. Solar shower.
So this is not a cruise.
However we are easy to get along with. You get a free ride to Europe and sailing-experience or mile-building for your licence.
We ask for food-contribution-costs only ($10 day will do) or other personal expenses that occur during the trip like visa etc. We cover all boat costs.
This is also not a race, and the motor is used only when there is no wind to sail. Trip shall take less than 2 months. Please be flexible.
Trip officially ends in Gibraltar, there may be further possibility of sailing to Greece if all goes well.

Let me get this right... you want someone to fly to Guatemala on their own dime, get on a 40 year old sailboat with no life raft, help you sail it across the atlantic, pay you $300-$600 for food, then fly back across the Atlantic on their own dime again?

Re: Atlantic Crossing April 2011

No,
we're looking for somebody who is already in this area and wants to get to Europe/Med without paying for a plane ticket. As you can see in this forum, there are lots of travellers who are looking for this kind of experience. And I don't think it is too much to ask for food contribution.
We might not have a life raft, but we have an inflateable to use in emergency and our boat might be 40 years old, but it does not mean, all the gear is as old.
And there seem to be a few "idiots" like ourselves floating around ...

Good luck to you, then. Hopefully you do at least have an EPIRB.

Re: Atlantic Crossing April 2011

LOL, I only asked about the liferaft. My son and I are both working on gaining hours for our captains license. We wish you the best of luck and IF air was included the food wouldn't be a problem. I WILL NOT put myself and my son in the middle of the Atlantic without a proper liferaft, EPIRB, and hand held water maker AT A MINIMUM. We wish you a safe passage. Before people start bashing me on the contents of a proper ditch bag, what I wrote was far from what I would have ready for an emergency. GOOD LUCK

CNC-Charters, that was a reply to a comment of LowCountry. Thanks for wishes.
And we do have an EPIRB.

If I wasn't already committed to another vessel I'd go with you. Pearson is a fine boat. and I would eventually have to pay for a plane ticket from Europe back to the US, but it wouldn't be for at least a year. Hitch hiking around the world on sailboats, gotta be one of the best ways to travel.

Re: Atlantic Crossing April 2011

Hello,

My name is Levi and I am an 18 year old French student studying at Pearson College an international school on Vancouver Island. I am thinking about going back to Europe by sails and I am looking for some thing like you are proposing. I am in the college sailing activity and have some experience. I do not smoke or do any drugs. What would be the most north of America you would be before starting to cross the Atlantic ?

Thank you very much !

Levi

Hi Levi,
we probably wouldn't be much further north than Florida before leaving States.
