Re: looking for a Ideal windless

badsanta, I dont know what you are looking for, but a friend had an Ideal, and it was wonderful. He said that the motor was a standard automotive starter motor, and could be repaired almost anywhere.Do you have mechanical problems, or electrical problems or gears and bearings. What is it that you are looking for?????. ______Grant.

Mine is the top deck mount with a with the chain and rope on the same side. It does not aline well with the the holes to the chain locker. I was hoping to find one with the chain on one side and rope on the other to use as a parts unit to either use the parts to change mine or use my motor to repair the other.

Have you contacted the company? They are still in business and up in the northeast. I ordered a cover for mine recently so know they are around.

Re: looking for a Ideal windless

It would be very costly to ship from Hawaii so I'm suggesting that you contact the company to see if you can get a replacement gypsy that will do what you want it to do.

Again, you need to know the size and style of chain (BBB, Proof Coil, High tensile) in order to match it to the gypsy unless you are intending to replace all the chain. It is also costly.

Just checked. I don't have any photos but can send if you still might be interested. It'll take me awhile to uncover the windlass.

+1 on contacting the company. They're in E. Greenwich, RI. I've had them do some work on my windlass as well as just calling with questions. They are very responsive and knowledgeable.
