Gulfstar 47 Sailmaster - 1980 - $135,000 - Miami FL

If your dream is to go cruising, this well-equipped and well-maintained cruising sloop is ready to set sail. Please take your time reviewing the extensive detail we're providing; we're sure it'll become clear that this listing offers tremendous value when considering both the bones of the vessel as well as the many accessories desirable for the cruising lifestyle.

We're a young retired couple; we recently finished making a second round of numerous and extensive upgrades in preparation for the next leg of our cruising life. Unfortunately, a devastating medical diagnosis has changed these plans. We can't go on sailing and must sell, losing our home of four years and our dreams of seeing so much more from what we've come to call “front row seats” to the world. Originally from Los Angeles, we've sailed 8,525 nautical miles from Texas where we bought the boat, along the Gulf of Mexico to Florida's western coast, south to Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Honduras, returning northward blue-water sailing all the way to the Bay of Fundy, and lastly back down the East Coast to Miami where our sailing bliss comes to an end.

The original owner was Senator Bentsen of TX, followed by an intermediary agent who sold it in pristine condition to what essentially became the second owners. This Texas couple lived aboard the vessel for 13 years, cruising full-time for 8 of those, also keeping her in excellent condition while upgrading many features. We bought it from this couple in January 2010; we've remained good friends ever since. Because of this wonderful experience, it's always been our intention to sell the boat ourselves when the time came, but due to present circumstances we may need to rely on the help of a broker. Nevertheless, we're giving it a try on our own first, then we'll see. In either case, we'll be available to introduce to the future owners all systems in detail, hoping they'll keep up the vessel's long-standing and extensive cruising tradition.

Beside the recent set of improvements, the first round of upgrades upon buying the boat in 2010 was also extensive. A summary of these is below. Please see the “Detailed List of Features” to appreciate just how well prepared this cruising vessel is for her next voyage.

Recent improvements (2013-14) include: New AGM batteries throughout; new house bank inverter/charger; new starter/windlass charger; new upholstery, foam cushions and curtains; new bimini canvas; new cockpit cushions; new aft stateroom mattress; new fuel injection fuel pump; new water pump">raw water pump; rebuilt starter motor; rebuilt alternator; new watermaker pumps and membrane; new bottom paint; new seacocks; new stainless steel jib tracks; new self-tailing winch at main sail outhaul; new refrigerator/freezer; new dinghy outboard; new masthead light and wind sensor instruments; refurbished main sail roller furler; new cockpit teak table and cup-holder; new bilge pump; new shower pump; and more.

Initial Improvements (2010-11) include: New exhaust elbow; new oil heat exchanger; new steering cables; new Furuno chart plotter/radar; new Ray Marine autopilot; new main and jib sails; new anchors; new lines and cordage; new deck storage box; and more.

In addition, detailed maintenance records, equipment manuals, original receipts, design drawings, and an extensive collection of spare parts accompany the vessel. Please see the separate “Inventory Directory” for more details.
