I'm not in the market yet, but how do/did you like it? I'd like to get one for my A37 in a few years...

I'd like to see some additional info myself. What year was it manufactured? Where are you located? What extras come with it? (Extra belts, shear pins, belt tensioner, etc...). What is the general condition? Looks like new, barely scratched?
I plan to buy one for my CSY44.

Re: CPT Wheel Pilot w/wheel adaptor

bluemoose, i've been using one on my csy 37 (20000 lbs) for eight years and like it. it's a very powerful wheel drive, has no trouble moving my barn door rudder. it's also primitive by todays standards.

doesn't use a fluxgate compass and doesn't interface with your chartplotter/gps. can't be used to 'automatically' tack your boat. but it's ultimately reliable and capable of steering larger boats that are often too big for the run of the mill wheel pilots like the raymarine x-5.

if you're boat is over 16000lbs and you don't want to go to the expense and trouble of installing a below decks pilot, i highly recommend the cpt autopilot. if i was crossing the atlantic or pacific i'd probably go for a real below decks pilot, but for my purposes this one works just fine.

Re: CPT Wheel Pilot w/wheel adaptor

Anyone interested in the CPT can send me an e-mail and I'll send you photos from my phone. As for condition; it came off my last boat, a 22,000 lb. Gulfstar Custom 40. It is used looking, as any abovedecks equipment is after a couple of years in the weather, doing it's job. It doesn't use a fluxgate compass and has no interfaces; it merely steers the course better than a human, doesn't bitch, get tired or perform acts of disobedience or mutiny. It is brutally strong and reliable. Fair Winds, JLS

Re: CPT Wheel Pilot w/wheel adaptor

My CPT sometimes disobeys my commands, particularly when near other boats or land. I don't think it likes being on a steel boat.

On the other hand when I lie back and look at that dead straight track on the plotter (Current and wind allowing!) I bless my lucky stars.

I picked up a (very lightly) used Simrad Wheel Pilot here, and it immediately became my new best friend. I wish they would make these things again.

Re: CPT Wheel Pilot w/wheel adaptor

Hello,

Is your CPT Wheel Pilot w/wheel adaptor still available.

We live aboard our 1977 Ericson 35 MK II, Free Spirit, in San Diego, CA. We started to install an Autohelm Type 1 linear drive unit only to discover not enough room around steering quadrant to install. A friend suggested a CPT wheelpilot, he had one that worked well on a similar sized sailboat. Want to do cruising but way tired of being at helm for too many hours at a time.

Please send asking price, photos, and any other usefull information to sailingjk13@hushmail.com.

Thank you,
John King
