Helia 44 with Volvo Penta D2-55 Fuel Consumption

Helia 44 with Volvo Penta D2-55 Fuel Consumption.

124 gal. tank / 1-3/4 gal. per hour at 2,400 RPM = 70 hour range at 7 knots (1 engine only)
70 hour range x 7 nm = 490 nm range = 564 miles range.

Re: Fuel Consumption

My own real world experience, with the same Volvos 55hp and Gori 3 blade folding props:
at 2000 -> 3,8 l/h
at 2200 -> 4,3 l/h

With one engine I can make 6 knots with one engine at 2000 (sometimes more motorsailing with not much wind), and would give:
470l / 4l/h = 117h x 6' = 700 nautical miles range.

Re: Fuel Consumption

Additive TC-W3 synthetic lube added to diesel, protects top end of engines against the wear of the terribly dry ULSD diesel... Well proven, just cannot add to modern EPA type vehicles with AdBlue or DPF exhausts...

Anyway, it has been hard to determine due to my lazy record keeping and using the genset to... But I am figuring about 2.5 litres per hour at sort of 2000-2200 rpm cruising, and more like 3.5 lph at 2400-2500 rpm. With a clean bottom and not bucking wind or current my Helia 44 will do 7 knots on one engine.

I have added the optional 470 litre tank on Starboard, and pump across when the main tank is down 1/4 or 1/2... On my way home in a weather window last year when I had to get back: I have done over 650 NM in ten days of no wind and pretty much flat seas on one tank.. Trolling, fishing the whole way, caught about 20 fish.. zig-zagging to see sights and whales and floaters. That run was with some minor 9.5 kva Cummins Diesel use at anchor, plus anchoring at islands every night and anchor retrieval in the morning, so, yea... Range on one tank is probably 650-700 NM with NO sailing... hmmm
