dinghy

10 1/2 should be the largest dinghy on existing davits

Is that due to weight or length?

dinghy

There is a weight limitation per davits ( max weight per davit is 100kg or 220 lbs)
Main limitation is width between hull wich is around 10'
Builder has a dinghy/outboard package with a 9' dinghy and 6HP outboard 4 stroke

I bought a 9' Walker Bay dingy with airfloor and a 6 hp 4 stroke Nissan over the internet (Total load of less than 160 Lb) and Fits fine. Only problem is a place to store the motor off of the dingy. Not much 1" tubing on the boat to mount an outboard mounting plate.

Good choice
You should be able to have a wood piece made to the stanchion size as an engine mount .We did that for some boats in Europe

stainless steel support for liferaft

Guys, I have just specified the factory fitted stainless steel support for liferaft, but on checking the photos of Mahes, noticed that none of the "models" show BOTH liferaft support & davits together. My question is, will there be enough room for a tender if both the stainless steel support & davits are installed?

Go to page 19 post 277 on this thread. You will see Lonnie's boat Irecat. He has the same Bimini as my boat and I placed a plywood board on the support post of the bimini you see in the photo. It easily holds my 6 hp outboard as well as converts to a small table to hold my cooking supplies since I placed my grill on the 1 inch S.S. tubing for the life lines. Works great and it allows me a good work space for access to the outboard engine for maintainance. If you would like to see a picture, I'll be out on the boat this weekend and can take a few for you. I've also made 2 cutting boards for the galley, one covers the cook top (giving us more work space) and the other spans the sink for cleaning/food prep. Can send you pictures of those as well.

Hi Kev&Jo, we have not yet received our Mahe nr 88, but had also considered where to put the outboard. You want it protected against theft when you're off, and against salt and sun during crossings. What about somewhere in one of the engine rooms? Maybe fix a piece of plywood board in one of the engine rooms and fix it to that? Disadvantages might be:
- handling the heavy weight of the 38 kg 6 HP Yamaha 2 cylinder
- What about having a gasoline tank in the engine room? Not much ventilation, sparks from the alternator and starter motor brushes?
I would appreciate comments on this.
I understood that somebody else put a generator in an engine room; that should have the same gasoline (OK, petrol) risk.

There is just no enough room in the engine hold for an outboard motor. I placed a diesel genset in the starboard engine hold but I would not consider a gas one for the reasons you stated. For storage you might be able to place the outboard in the chain locker, there is enough room but it does get water in there.
I'll try to post pictures of my solution for the outboard as soon as we get back from this weekend trip. I purchased a lock for the outboard to prevent thief which can be used on the dingy as well as on the plywood support.

Hi Scott,

Please post some pictures on the mount you have made, I am sure others here would love to see it. Look forward to seeing what ideas you have.

I also take on board what Jef and Marin are saying, we currently have it stored in the chain locker, which for now will do but it is not a permanent solution.

Jef - we got the factory to fit an additional set of jammers on the coach house roof and a very good job they made of it, I cant remeber the cost but it was not much in the scheme of things. I think 180 euros fitted. Bargin.

Plus when you get your new boat you will have more than enough to do, trust me I know!

Photo email from Scott?

Scott, you tried to send me some photo's of the outboard mount you made, and some photo's of changes in the kitchen. However there were no photo's attached to your email, and your email address bounces. So I am asking through this quite indirect way: Could you give it a retry? Thanks,
Jef
