The point on the Electrical panel on the Lucia 40 is that it was NOT in the engine compartment. It was in a forward cabin. When you sail with teenagers, they go to bed and don't adjust their thermostats which are also in their cabins. So you can't adjust thermostat to shed load or shut off at panel without going in to cabin with a light (and effectively waking them) - aka poking a bear! That's the issue. Adults would be ok!
If this panel was in the port hull it was aftermarket. The factory panel is in the port engine room along with the factory transfer switch and the generator.

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

No problem. The water marker input by Capt Jay was super useful in swaying my view on 110v V 12v.

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

Capt. Jay. What are your thoughts of kitting out the forepeak as an additional berth? Specifically, I'm wondering if that is a "feature" that charterers find useful. I'm also wondering if more than 8 souls on the boat would be challenging from a wear and tear perspective. Anyone else have input?

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

Hi Jeffay. Thank you. I knew that the boat we chartered (Lucia 40) had been after market/dealer finished by ACY. I also know that factory fit in both Lucia 40 and Saona 47 was in engine compartment. Not a fan of that location either, but better than inside a cabin! I was just looking for confirmation of where panel would be located in Astrea 42. One should always hold out hope I guess that in the course of progress, FP might have come up with the more common Salon location for the panel. But sadly, I had it confirmed tonight that FB 110v/220v panel is still in the engine compartment on the Astrea 42. I'm guessing that ACY, could still opt to fit theirs in the port forward cabin or take this opportunity to go for main salon?@!

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

Hi Luc. No prob & many thanks. That's the 12v panel which has been in that location on all their recent models. Sticking the 110v distribution panel right near it would be nice. All I want to be able to do is take the a/c load off genset before depowering. I'll have to figure out how to turn the a/c thermostats up remotely at night without going into the cabins! Wi-Fi thermostats on a boat...

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

Brian, the Helia 44 that I recently stayed on had an AC panel above the refrigerator, just as you walk inside from the cockpit. I assumed that that was FP standard. Maybe it was an ACY commissioning feature?

Most of the Helia's that we have had in the fleet have at least one forepeak fitted out. Comes in handy for teen agers and occasionly a captain if needed. They are lightly used. This is less imortant on a four cabin boat.

Alot of owners want to keep one for their owners locker. Inflateable paddleboards, fishing gear, downwind sail etc.

All the currenty FP model use the same panels in the engine rooms. The boat you where on likely had teh ACY option for the panel inside. While convient it is not inexpensive. It also requires a lot of additional wire. Basically they turn the factory box into a junction box. The power from the genset and or shore power is run to the new panel and then a new wire has to be pulled from each breaker at the new panel back to the engine room to energize each circuit.

FP seems to be moving to automatic transfer switches. The Saba has them, the 47 has them and the newest Helia that we have has one.

Re: Astrea 42: Owners?

Hi all,
I have a delivery march 2020. No hull number yet.
Luc told me about this forum. Nice idea!
I saw the hull #1 @LGM: it felt as coming home and as you can notice from my pictures Luc posted, you will agree the boat is a dream.
I went for the quatuor version.

Hi JanPieter: Welcome to the Astrea Waiting Room And thank you for the pictures and video. Hopefully you’ll get to see the pros/cons of different options ‘live’ before you have to finalize your spec. I’ve got my fingers crossed today on 2 changes on spec I’ve requested from FP as a result of the great input here. My window for changes should have closed but it’s tough landing stuff on a new model when information is scarce.
