upgrade from 2.4 to 2.5 on ubuntu?

Can I do this without an internet connection?
I want to take the deb file out to the boat PC and install 2.5

Does anyone know if it needs any extra files to do this?
thanks

Re: upgrade from 2.4 to 2.5 on ubuntu?

sdowney...
It should not need any libraries - 2.5 is a stable 2.4.
Code:
$ dpkg -I opencpn_2.5.0-1_i386.deb
 new debian package, version 2.0.
 size 23226578 bytes: control archive= 9923 bytes.
     319 bytes,    10 lines      control
   32762 bytes,   337 lines      md5sums
 Package: opencpn
 Version: 2.5.0
 Section: Miscellaneous
 Priority: optional
 Architecture: i386
 Depends: libwxgtk2.8-0 (>= 2.8.7.1), libglu1-mesa (>= 7.0.0), libgl1-mesa-glx (>= 7.0.0), zlib1g, bzip2

Re: upgrade from 2.4 to 2.5 on ubuntu?

thanks, I will give it a go.

How about running version 2.6 beta?
Although I don't really want to do that as on my home PC i got a libgps mismatch error. I showed that to the developer and he said it would get fixed.
Something about a linked library. So I was wondering if I installed that, my gps might not work.

When you upgrade to 2.5, your sound will probably not work out of the box! Follow the new installation instructions in the wiki to fix this.
The fix is also described here, Known issues with current stable release. | Official OpenCPN Homepage
You will have to upgrade a few packages from a non standard repository.
It is only a problem for Linux.
This problem has forced a new dependency for 2.6.

39. Add "libsdl1.2debian" as a necessary dependency for .deb packages (FS#603)

onthe Ubuntu version of puppy linux,

for OPCN2.6.~ I put this on...gpsd-3.3.

(useless info?:It was a tar.gz package I think,because I see I've converted it to a "pet"package -which is the same thing-for a backup for future installs)

Re: upgrade from 2.4 to 2.5 on ubuntu?

well the sound is not important today.
In the past, I have simply pulled the drive and take it home to do upgrades.
My PC I built from an old desktop case. I cut it down and massaged it to fit in a space under the chart table.

With Ubuntu, you can pull your hard drive and boot another machine and it works. Unlike windows where you get the blue screen.
