Re: Plugin: DashBoard

capt_wang...
The dashboard shows information about your own ship, the AIS messages are transmitted by other ships around you. The heading of those ships that transmit it is shown:
a) graphically on the chart - the icons points in the direction of the heading
b) numerically in the AIS target list window and in the detailed AIS target query window

If you want to know if the dashboard uses AIVDO your own ship transmits, it does not and I wonder what it would be good for as all the AIS transmitters I've ever seen were outputting the GPS NMEA data directly without forcing their user to care about obscurities like using AIS data for own ship info.

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

Love the dashboard, it really makes the program a great all around tool. My Depth data just come up 999. the other data seems ok, any ideas what my cause this. It is coming from my signet 0183 nmea data to a shipmodul multiplexer.

Nobody can have any idea without having a look at your NMEA message stream. Please get the VDR plugin, record some and post it for examination.

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

Thanks, will do. I downloaded and installed the plug in and it seems set up, I will go down to the boat and try it in a few minutes. I like that we will be looking at the sentencing coming into the computer. I will compare it to what's coming into the multiplexer.
While on the plugin download page I downloaded the google earth and the ais radar display but they don't show up in my plugins. Any ideas?

Version of OpenCPN? Version of the plugins you downloaded? What does the logfile say?

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

Version 2.5.0 Build 2011-07-26, aisradar_pi18_v092_pi, gecomapi_win32_pi16_v09_pi
I just noticed that gecomapi says win32 I am running 64 bit, could be a problem? What do you think. I'm going to record on the boat be back in a few minutes.

I thought that putting that heading saying "Plugins for OpenCPN 3.0" above them and writing "supports OpenCPN 2.6 and later" next to each will be sufficient
But enough joking. For 2.5.0, you need the older version of the plugins built specifically for it - you can find them at the beginning of the plugin download page (except the AIS radar which I compiled just for the new version)

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

Well I might have found the problem, my open CPN shows 999.0m so I guess it is looking for meters, the sentence is in feet.

Your assuming I'm literate. Sorry, I hate waiting peoples time, working a little to fast.
I'll try to be more careful. Thaks for your help. What do you think about the sentencing for the depth?

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

Ed...
Not a good day for the dashboard is today I see the problem - the DBT sentence should contain all the 3 values, but in your case there are just feet. Dashboard uses the value for meters, which in your case has the default "I see nothing" value.
Code:
/*
** DBT - Depth below transducer
   **
   ** 1 2 3 4 5 6 7
   ** | | | | | | |
   ** $--DBT,x.x,f,x.x,M,x.x,F*hh<CR><LF>
   **
   ** Field Number:
   ** 1) Depth, feet
   ** 2) f = feet
   ** 3) Depth, meters
   ** 4) M = meters
   ** 5) Depth, Fathoms
   ** 6) F = Fathoms
   ** 7) Checksum
   */

I have actually just submitted a patch that makes the dashboard understand to the incomplete DBT sentences, so if it gets accepted you should be happy once OpenCPN 3.0 is out...

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

My instruments require you to pick one, changed it to meters and it works. I know I can't read but I can work in US or metric.
I'll like it if it has the option for either.

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

New subject, I just added the google earth plug in. How are people using that offline? I am wondering how to save and recall say harbor aerial views.

Re: Plugin: DashBoard

There's info about it in the GE plugin thread. You need to populate the GE cache with data - more info about that at Using The Google Earth Cache. Terry has also beaten the subject of GE usage on a boat almost to death in http://yachtvalhalla.net/navigation/googleearth.htm
If you read both, you will certainly be an expert in GE and what and how to do with it
