The 2.6.1609 version of OCPN does not accept local AUDIO POI´s it seems.
The local file entry line: file:/C:/TEMPFILE/BRAZILWELCOME.mp3 does not execute.

Please advice.

Testing the same thing on Linux, with 1609. Both waw and mp3 works, as long as the filename contains no spaces. The problem with spaces is general and not limited to sound files.

I have a brand new dual core desktop with Windows 7 and the mp3 file in the POI from a local directory does NOT work/activate. When entering the same command line in Firefox,it works right a way.

A graphics file activates right a way also in local mode.

I will test again with other sound types.

This is unfortunately out of my control. As long as you have Windows Media Player associated with the audio files on Windows 7, it is not invoked properly by the Windows shell when a sound (or video) link is clicked.
The problem disappears as soon as you have any other media player application associated to handle the sound files (tested with VLC on my system, but basically any other player should work the same)
To change the default player takes just a couple of clicks and there's a nice video tutorial on how to do it at

I´ve downloaded and set VLC as the default media player,but it still will not activate/play an .mp3 file from the POI in local drive modus. A .waw file plays normally from he POI. Clicking the .mp3 file direct in it´s directory starts VLC playing. Must be some other reason

None that I can currently think of... Using any other player than the one being part of Windows it's OK here. When you double click a sound file it now plays normally using VLC?
Anybody else with this problem?

1. Clicking on ANY sound file type direct starts both the Windows media player as well as the VLC.

2. No sound files plays/executes from the local POI setup with the Windows media player.

3. Only .waw sound files plays from the local POI setup with VLC as the default media player.

Very strange indeed..

Yeah, strange. Will try to do a bit of searching to find out why both the players open at the same time for you. That definitely shouldn't happen and most likely causes the links not opening from the WPT properties dialog.

I made a parallel installation of the previous v. 2.6.1511 and all the POI links work the way they should. Must be something in the newest version causing the problem.

Do you say, that right now 1511 works for you on this Windows 7 machine while 1609 does not?
I'm a bit confused, because this part of the code opening the links is unchanged since the first prototype implementation I did... It's actually code that was there before I did this new dialog at all.

Your # 175.. No, I do not have v. 1511 installed on this new PC,but it happened on my old PC.

No media player seems to be activated for mp3 files called from a POI in local mode,
but they play readily when clicked directly.

Getting lost
If you doubleclick an .mp3, which application opens it? If it's Windows media player, it's wrong and you have to do what's shown in the video a few posts back. If it's VLC, I have to look further.

Out of OCPN,all the mediafiles opens correctly when clicked,using whichever media player which has been set as default. So,if VLC is set as the default player for mp3,it opens correctly when clicked.

Well,it´s no big deal... I just convert the audio files to the .waw format which works fine. It would be good,however,if in a spare time you could find out why .mp3 files do not execute with ANY media player.

The POI´s work fine with .mp4 video files,but not with .mp3 audio files.
