I think , (at least for me) that a sailor want to see right data and would prefere interpret by himself if there is no.
I do not know a grib tool who do that (without a warning)
If we forget this and look at the logical , when the interpolate option is not selected, it make no sens to have different step than in the file. In this case the default should be the file step and the slices per hour option desabled
Thanks for the explanation.

Now, there is already a checkbox for interpolate between gribs which may be left unchecked to get the behavior you describe, however it still will use the closest grib if the time is between two. I think the solution then, is to eliminate these substeps, so time always lies exactly on a grib, disable the irrelevant settings (when it is not checked)

Since there could be time steps: 6 hours, 6 hours, 12 hours.. or for cases where the step is not always the same (non uniform timesteps) which makes it impossible to set this value, so the checkbox should be left unchecked. Also by default it could be unchecked.

I think the best way is to deactivate the "slices per update" and "slices per hours" and to take exactly the same steps as in the file when "interpolate" option is unchecked

I think I can make this reality.

Re: New Grib Presentation

Nevermind, what do you mean, a small button to hide/unhide the Data Type display and values, but not the top control area, so that there is less space used up on the screen after you have set your grib file path, etc? - Maybe it could be top choice under Settings?

Yes
I want to see the grib on screen without the window with the data.
Like a display off many windows on the computer.
Thanks.

Re: New Grib Presentation

So what you want is a plugin shortcut that will completely hide in the background, the currently highlighted plugin window. Executing the same key combination would then bring that plugin's control window back to display on the screen. The plugin would continue to run in the background, with the currently set chart overlay or whatever.

Is there any way to make this key combination apply to other plugins too? If so, how would user control which background plugin will "unhide". --Sort of like using Alt-Tab in Windows, where you a small window pops up with application icons, you alt-tab again to change which one is highlighted, then hit enter to maximize and bring focus to that app.

How about a combination key to toggle hide/show all data keeping visible only the first line to keep control on the map data ?

Re: New Grib Presentation

In the updated new grib code there is still the wrong name FARENHEIGH for the man called FAHRENHEIT who invented in 1774 his so called temperature scale.

Re: New Grib Presentation

Gerhard...
To which "updated new grib code" are you referring, could you enlighten me a bit, please?
It is definitely not the current opencpn master branch where the latest grib_pi I'm aware of resides:
Code:
nohal@knut ~/source/opencpn/plugins/grib_pi/src $ grep -i farenheigh *
nohal@knut ~/source/opencpn/plugins/grib_pi/src $ grep -i fahrenheit *
GribSettingsDialog.cpp:static const wxString units3_names[] = {_("Celcius"), _("Fahrenheit"), wxEmptyString};
GribSettingsDialog.cpp:        case FAHRENHEIT: return -273.15 + 32*5/9.0;
GribSettingsDialog.cpp:        case FAHRENHEIT: return 9./5;
GribSettingsDialog.cpp:            case FAHRENHEIT: return _T("\u00B0F");
GribSettingsDialog.h:    enum Units3 {CELCIUS, FAHRENHEIT};
