How do i know openCPN working properly?

I just installed openCPN and configured with my gps dongle (BU-353) now I need to test it if it is working well. I'm at home at the moment not on sea. it seems not working when I test it at my home. ship icon point same place, so I think it is not configured properly.

is it possible to test it far from sea? or I have to test it on ship ?

I would suppose it's kind of normal that the ship points to the same direction if you are sitting at home as your course over ground is obviously not changing.
If the ship icon turned red, moved to where your house is and the GPS signal indicator is showing green bars and not the red ball, it's "working properly". More on GPS status in GPS Status | Official OpenCPN Homepage

Ahahahahaa, Here is one I wrote earlier. Coming to this forum is better than watching Forrest Gump movie.

.....take it to the car and drive around the block

Regardless of your sentences, I guess it doesn't work properly I tested it while driving and nothing changed. it still show up red ball.

I'm sure I installed gsp dongle driver properly because gps info gives me different long, att while I'm walking arround home.

As long as the ball is red, you don't have to drive anywhere, of course. OpenCPN is simply not receiving the NMEA data.
GPSInfo shows the port to which the GPS is connected. Right?
Now close GPSInfo (the application must not be running at the same time as OpenCPN), start OpenCPN and set the connection to the same port you have seen with GPSInfo before.
If it's still a no-go, we need more info, like what did you set. Screenshot is good for that.
