Having issues installing on Linux Mint 13

Hi,

I'm trying to get Opencpn installed on a laptop running linux Mint 13. I have tried adding the ppa repository via the terminal as well as through synaptic, with the following error:

W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/opencpn/ope...source/Sources 404 Not Found

W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/opencpn/ope...amd64/Packages 404 Not Found

W: Failed to fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/opencpn/ope...-i386/Packages 404 Not Found

I am using the following command in the terminal, as per instructions on the launchpad.net site: ppapencpn/opencpn

Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for any hints!

The problem is that there is no Ubuntu version called "maya". Where did you get that from?

It's just like adding any other repository.
More info here Installing OpenCPN | Official OpenCPN Homepage check the heading "Using Linux repositories, an easier way to install and update."

Re: Having issues installing on Linux Mint 13

Maya is the version of Linux Mint. It is based on Ubuntu 12.04. Usually instructions for how to install programs in Ubuntu work the same for Mint.

I have followed the instructions on the how to install using repositories section of Opencpn website too...

Is it the case then that I must be running Ubuntu itself in order to install Opencpn and not a distribution based on Ubuntu?

Thanks for your reply.

You can't just invent links and expect them to work. Have a look at Index of /opencpn/opencpn/ubuntu/dists to see your options. Mint is not involved in this at all. It's a "pure" Ubuntu link
In your case i would use the Ubuntu "precise" corresponding to 12.04.

So your link would look like -> http://ppa.launchpad.net/opencpn/ope...source/Sources

There is a fair chance that this will work for you.

It seems a little odd to have Sourceforge direct you here to cruisersforum.com for help, but they do! Have you seen the thread http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...cpn-13653.html?

Also, if the binaries fail, you can compile from source. But you probably knew that.

Wow! I did't know what a large OpenCPN comunity there was here! I'm taking that last post back. There's got to be a more specific answer somewhere in the threads.

Re: Having issues installing on Linux Mint 13

In case some more Mint users will come here...
Linux Mint 13 aka Maya is a clone of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS aka Precise.
Linux Mint 14 aka Nadia is a clone of Ubuntu 12.10 aka Quantal.
Linux Mint 15 aka Olivia is a clone of Ubuntu 13.04 aka Raring.

You have to use the corresponding Ubuntu release to be able to configure the Software Source and use the Launchpad packages.

I really appreciate all these replies, thanks! I'm just getting into Linux so apologies for any boneheaded maneuvers.
