It's OK, I found what I was doing wrong. Charts, etc moved to D:\ drive, so I copied there. Program is on C:\.

Works fine with me... W7 32 bits, GE 7.0.2.8415
Latest GE2KAP 9.6.3
Check whether GE2KAP plugin is activated
Check whether GE graphical mode is DirectX, not OpenGl...

Thumbs up Re: Google Earth Plugin

Hi all, in between all the debugging going on, I'd like to shout out kudos for Paul (GE2KAP) and the OpenCPN team. We have been using both for a while here in Fiji, where there are reefs everywhere, sometimes inaccurate charts, and sometimes rivers obscuring the water colors. There are very very very few Aids to Navigation here in Fiji, and certainly not out in the boonies where we are.

It's summertime here in Fiji, and we've been enjoying gunkholing around in remote reefy areas while the wind is low and (usually) the sun is high. We are experienced FL/Bahamas reef navigators and often go where others fear to go, with someone in the rigging with polaroids on.

The local advice is to travel only on sunny days between 10am and 2pm, so you can see the reefs. Well, we had a long leg, and it was supposed to be a sunny day, but we arrived at our reef entrance at 4pm and it was pouring rain--and not just a cloudburst. We loitered at the entrance for a half hour or so, and it wasn't letting up, but it was getting later. The next nearest non-reef-bound entrance was about 25 miles.

We ended up going in on GoogleEarth--we had previously captured an EXCELLENT GE photo of this particular harbor with GE2KAP, and used it to suss out the details of the entrance. Our chart agreed with the GE chart with respect to the 3 isolated coral heads in the middle of the channel that we had to avoid.

So we proceeded "on instruments" at 2 knots, good lookout on the bow (still in the pouring rain), and no wind. Where the GE chart showed us approaching a coral head, our lookout would look, and yup there it was (helpfully marked by the locals with a big stick).

We got in safely, thanks to the help of GoogleEarth, GE2Kap, OpenCPN (and a Garmin GPSMap 76Csx) as our GPS and "chart plotter".

Keep up the good work!!

Re: Google Earth Plugin

I hadn't looked at the Google Earth plug-in with a GPS turned-on recently, and was surprised to find the boats position in the GE window as well as the OpenCPN window. This is great for navigating with poor charts.

My usual mode of operation is to create a route in OpenCPN and then use the right click transfer to KML and paste in GE to check for problems. I'll probably still do this if I have time but it's less necessary.

I have connected a GPS directly to GE but it's annoying and won't let you zoom in.

Re: Google Earth Plugin

When a impoterer GPX files to Googel map / Earth, disappears links.
Is there a way to get this to work on.
Or must one go in and edit a WP and again in Googel map / Earth to get in the links in again.

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Maybe I've missed something along the past few months, but is it possible for you to release an update that does not fill the log files with log data?

I realize you were waiting to update the plugin in general, but since it seems to be working well, can you release a recompile without all the log messages?

On long trips, it really seems to slow down O, and the only reason I think is the log file is getting huge over days of running.

If I missed an update, sorry, and let me know, but the last check for a new download and I did not see one.

Thanks for the help with this.

Re: Google Earth Plugin

This probably belongs in another thread (I'm not sure where) but it's related to Google Earth things.

In OpenCPN I "Right Click>Copy KML", while hovering over a route, I get a KML copy of the route. I then go GE and paste in the temp folder. Later on when I exit GE I save the route. I have done this to a number or routes. When these routes are displayed in the latest vers of GE (7.0.3.8542) the path seems to be in the right place but the way-point icon is N of the path. The amazing thing is - when I use the GE plugin in OpenCPN the way-points are right on top of the path!!! No problema.

This may be a GE error. I don't know if it affects GE2KAP.

The GE plug-in and GE2KAP are boat savers in poorly charted areas.

R fixes the problem but I noticed that I needed to touch the screen (a drag or a left click) before typing R. At least on my vers of GE.

I can copy the KML, but cannot paste it into GE.
Can you tell me how it is done please?
