Hello Pavel,
No zooming in at all of GE. No GPS connected. I'm not aware of plugin settings. North up.
As I wrote before, when I take an older plugin zooming works.
Win7 x64, dual core 3GHz, 8Gb ram.

Gilletarom.
Actually you CAN use it at sea ... meaning along coast lines, etc. But you must first scan and save the cache information for Google Earth. Take a look at my project on using Google Earth for navigation: http://yachtvalhalla.net/navigation/googleearth.htm

Once I get the plugin working for me I'm sure the same saved caches can be used.

Hi Pavel,

0.6 opens with no crash. But when I click on the GE icon I get a blank screen on the left.

Log attached.

I'm sure it's the loose nut on the operating control knob.

Thanks for all of your patience and help.

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Zoef...

You can of course also save your expanded GE plugin display in .jpg, minimize OpenCPN and execute GE2KAP (free) which will create a .kap chart you can later use in OpenCPN.

Pavel,

The zooming is working for me now.
When I open the GE window, after pushing the GE button, to only 20% of the screen width there is still no scrolling. However, after opening the GE window to half the screen width everything is OK, also when I reduce again the GE window.

Thanks for the great feature.

Just to make really sure, that we will not be hunting a ghost. Did you follow the Netbook screen instruction from the 0.6 release notes?

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Pavel,

Nice work. Load and run ok on my XP SP3
but........
it seems that the zoom level are different between GE and OpenCPN. I see more in the GE picture than I do on CPN chart. So when zooming in to see details in the GE picture the OpenCPN chart is on a very high zoom level and you have to back in zoom level to verify what you saw in the GE picture.
This can be handled and is not a big problem but we are in the beta process and I will let you know

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Jan,
known stuff... Now the logic is very simple (and of course pretty wrong anywhere else than on the equator) - one minute longitude on the chart equals one nautical mile at the center of GE view. The question is how much math this problem is worth investing, bearing on mind that it can never be good due to spherical vs. mercator projection used. I would say a bit more than now, but not too much

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Pavel..

The latest version is not stable for me on Vista. Have to call GE twice before the globe appears but no map. Switching on and off a couple of times finally shows the map area.
I've also had OpenCPN crash during a session.. The early version was much more stable.

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Tore,
I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean by having to call GE twice. And what by the "no map" term. A screenshot and a log worth a thousand words here.

With this version it takes a while (= some change in the chart view) to make the GE view catch up - it's a feature in this version to improve overall performance of the whole system and reduce the resource consumption and still needs some tuning, for which I need feedback. Without this, especially in course-up mode with the GPS connected, the load on the system was way too high to be acceptable.

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Pavel,
Today I noticed that I can set GE to start either in OpenGL or in DirectX modus. If I pick OpenGL, OpenCPN freezes when I press the GE button. With DirectX things seem to be OK. Is this plugin made for DirectX?

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Klaas,
good question - didn't even try it and the docs from Google are silent in this area. DirectX is the default as far as I know and it's the standard technology on Windows, so let's say it's what we support On my dev machine, there is no difference if I use either, no freezing.

Re: Google Earth Plugin: Docking and un-docking

Hello,

1024X600 :

I undock the GE window.

Then I dock the window.

At this time, all is Ok.

But after I Re-float the Ge window and then I have a white GE window.

Join : log file.

And there is same problem if I use 1024X768.

Best regards

Gilletarom.

Re: Google Earth Plugin

Hello,

Other problem :

The boat is under the Golden Gate.

You can see than the Golden Gate have not the same direction in GE plug-in and in Chart window.

So, in Ge window, thisd mean that the display is not north up.

Is it normal ?

Best regards

Gilletarom
