Edit Waypoint Issue

I'm updating the LAT and LON values for several waypoints (from Waypoint Properties screen) and after clicking on they LAT and LON revert back to the previous values. This is happening on all edits I've tried to make! I can't figure out why - does anyone have experience with this issue and have a solution?

Re: Edit Waypoint Issue

Just tested changing wpt lat/lon with version 5.0.0 No problem. Are you working on a wpts that is a layer?

Not sure. How can I tell? If that’s the issue, how do I correct?

Re: Edit Waypoint Issue

In the Roots and Waypoints Manager form there is a tab for layers. Click it and see if your wpt is listed there. You cannot change the properties of layers from within OpenCPN. Since you are not familiar with layers it is unlikely that is your problem. To create a waypoint layer you have to copy a GPX file with the waypoint into the Layers folder under the OpenCPN Program Data folder. Not something you are likely to do by accident.

Hint: Search 'layers' in the manual.

Ocpn_Draw 1.6 @opencpnpencpn_user_manuallugins:safety12 Hits, Last modified: 4 weeks agoers === Drawing Objects imported into Layers are static and non editable. Use Layers in the same way as the OCPN Route and Waypoint manager does, i.e. Temporary Layers. It will bring in boundaries and points and show or hide them as requ... up and they will load into the same layer. To use Layers and move Drawing Objects into a temporary user cr... em, Export Selected and then import then from the Layers tab Import. ==== Edit Mode for Draw Objects ====

Re: Edit Waypoint Issue

So - if layers aren’t the issue, what else might it be?

Re: Edit Waypoint Issue

It's very easy to see if a wpt is part of a layer. I is clearly stated at the top of the properties dialog.

We need to understand exactly what you are doing. Walk us through the process and show some screenshots.

Re: Edit Waypoint Issue

Pretty basic actions: (1) open route & marker manager; click on waypoints tab; double-click on waypoint I want to edit; use control c to select the values I want to use (from http://www.canals.ny.gov/wwwapps/boating/locks.aspx); use control v to paste LAT or LON into waypoint properties; click OK. Reopen waypoint and LAT or LON has reverted back to previous coordinates.

Re: Edit Waypoint Issue

rnumon, I do it slightly differently, try this:
1 Copy the Lat and the Long from your source (Ctrl/C)

2 Open Route and Mark manager
3 Double-Click (or select properties)
4 RIGHT-Click and there, the context menu allows you to paste.

Re: Edit Waypoint Issue

You are getting into Lat Long format issues I think.
You need to be far more detailed about this.
What are your settings?
What is the format you are using to paste?

If you change/convert the format is it accepted?

Use these

Degree Decimal = DD
Degree Minutes Decimal = DM
Degree Minutes Seconds = DMS

A screenshot or two might also help
Opncpn version

Re: Edit Waypoint Issue

The waypoint conversion of lat long formats seems to be much much better in version 5!
Created a waypoint that was showing lat long in degrees decimal min. pasted in decimal degree lat & long separately

and the waypoint moved to the correct location and now shows it in degrees dec min.

I could try some others, but I think the OP needs to explain his problem better.

Copy / pasting lat and long separately works fine on win10 v5
