"Changing NMEA Datasource for GPGSV to Serial" message

Hi all,

I am running 4.88 for windows and I have 2 NMEA datasources connected via USB. One is for GPS and other is for AIS.

1. Simrad GPS via a Maretron NMEA 2000 / USB Gateway USB100 (Com 4)
2. McMurdo Smartfind M5 AIS (Com 5)

Both are set up on a different com ports and I am receiving data from both of them. However I keep seeing the red message on the NMEA debug window saying "Changing NMEA Datasource for GPGSV to Serial".

I can get GPS signal off either device but I primarily want GPS of my Simrad and AIS off my Smartfind. Should both of these units be set to Priroity 1 or do I have something configured wrong causing this error message I'm seeing? Or should I ignore it?

Thanks

They should not be set to the same priority and you can likely ignore it as long as one of the 2 GPS receivers is not faulty.

Thanks for the reply. Which one should be set to what priority?

I want GPS from com 4 and AIS from com 5

The one you prefer more should have higher priority than the one you prefer less. They should not have the same priority as it tells OpenCPN you don't care which one is used.

You can also tell OpenCPN to ignore GPGSV sentences from Com 5.

What would that accomplish? No GPS signal from Com 5, just AIS?
