Re: AIS Targets Disappear After a Longer Period

Look at this scenario:

1. After 20 min ALL targets gets marked as lost, even live ones.
2. After 30 min all target marked as lost are DELETED,even live ones.

I think the right command should be.'Mark all lost targets after 20 min'
And then DELETE all lost targets after 30 min'
It now marks ALL targets as lost after 20 min.

Something wrong here..

Re: AIS Targets Disappear After a Longer Period

I have an idea..

Tore, could you make a several hours long log (dump) of the AIS data from your receiver, and put this file somewhere on the net for download?

Ideally it would be the same data which appears to create problems..

Re: AIS Targets Disappear After a Longer Period

mrm..

You can download a long NMEA datastream here:
AIS MESSAGES 1 HOUR.txt - 4shared.com - document sharing - download

I notice this message line is sent separately at regular intervals:
$AITXT,01,01,91,FREQ,2087,2088*57

It is obviously a message other navigation programs,Fugawi etc. are aware of and does not stop THEIR data input. Perhaps this message should also be taken into account by OCPN?

Thanks, got it. Will try to throw it at my OCPN install later in the day and report back.

I would be very surprised if an unexpected NMEA sentence would hang up OCPN...

In the case of my easyTRX2 the situation was clear: the AIS box stopped responding. Two separate systems connected to it lost all inputs, and there was an orange LED on the AIS box (labelled "Warning"). I tried to correlate this to the intensity of traffic received etc. but in vain.

Looking briefly at SR162 Troubleshooting Guide I notice that it does respond to some Input on the AIS-PC connection, doing some diagnostics etc. So maybe a stray _output_ from the PC... worth a look...

Re: AIS Targets Disappear After a Longer Period

I have been using 2.5 with XP and run continuously for days/weeks at a time (transatlantic, Med, etc) - never a problem with targets disappearing or losing GPS for that matter over the last 2 years. AIS from NASA AIS engine 3 to USB via RS232 converter, and GPS from puck, so it seems unlikely this is OpenCPN fault?

Re: AIS Targets Disappear After a Longer Period

Pjotr..

All your suggestions are quite possible, BUT,why does AIS NOT get interrupted in other navigation programs or NMEA generators?

In both Fugawi Enc Marine as well as AIS Dispatcher,I receive AIS messages continuously for hours?

My other question was why the NMEA messages are NOT displayed in the datastream window when activated in the GPS section of OCPN. Or is this SOLELY for GPS messages?

Have you tried selecting the port to which your AIS receiver is connected as the GPS port (Toolbox/GPS/NMEA Data Source) and setting the AIS port (Toolbox/AIS/AIS Data Port) to None? That should fool OpenCPN into thinking the NMEA data stream is coming from a GPS and make the data visible in the GPS/NMEA data stream window.

You won't get a position fix or any AIS targets, but you'll be able to look at the data stream.

Re: AIS Targets Disappear After a Longer Period

Ed..

I am using Vista Basic and a standard Serial to USB converter cable.

I have previously used Fugawi and Fugawi ENC Marine for many years in both Scandinavia,Germany and the UK and I have never had a total removal of active AIS targets.

Also,displaying/collecting continuous NMEA messages with my AIS Dispatcher without any disruption over hours. At certain regular intervals I also receive this message: $AITXT,01,01,91,FREQ,2087,2088*57

Perhaps OCPN does not know how to handle it? Or it could be a Vista thing?
I'd like to hear from other Vista users with the same input cable.

Re: AIS Targets Disappear After a Longer Period

I have only upgraded to v. 2.6 during the past couple of days and I am concerned to see that several times, including a few minutes ago, when doing a query (right click) on an AIS target,OCPN ceases to function and aborts.

This is the logfile:

Pavel..

Thanks... but what are THESE error messages in the logfile each time I start OCPN?

And why can it not find the plugin directory or it's files? It's all there.

Some broken image file can't be loaded. Do you have user icons?

The plugin API has changed in the last beta - it just tells you that plugins not compatible with the 2.6.1310 version were not loaded, intended behavior.
