Wireless Radar?

OK, so I have a problem on my boat.

I am replacing an ancient Radar, but the datacable is so buried in foam (steel boat) that there seems to be no way to get the new datacable to go from the nav station to the radar mounted on an aft pole. We have power to the radar, using the old power connection, but the data cable is a huge issue.

Has anybody heard of a Radar that sends it's data wireless to a receiving station or MFD? Or any other ideas?

Yeah! But the Simrad set up is not cheap!!! Best with iPad.

Of course you would have to set up your NSS some place that you can run the cables and control it from anywhere on the boat.

I think I would attempt to pull the old cable thru with a line attached then use that line to pull in the new one, if the foam hasn't glued itself to the cable. Otherwise re-route thru a different location.

If you still have usable pairs from the original instalation you could use more than just power. Newer Icom LCD Display type units uses 2 shielded pairs for all the display info. Basically a serial communication set up. When I changed units I was surprised to see the minimal amount of wiring involved. Other older units I have had in the past had between 16 and 24 wires in use.

Thanks for all the advice. I think we will see if we can make it work on the old cable first, and if not drill through the foam to create a "tunnel". The wires are solidly stuck to the foam. Apparently the previous owner thought technology would never move on and his 16 mile Panasonic radar was going to be the crowning achievement of technology.
