Wifi extender

For just a wifi extender I was going to buy an Island Time as I have heard good reports and it's way cheaper than a Wirie, however I wanted the cell data booster too, and then the Wirie Pro is a good price by comparison.
As I researched this it became quickly apparent that if you were a computer type, particularly in networking, then you can piece your own together for much less. However I am not and wanted to buy plug and play, but you pay for that.
The Wirie interface is very easy to use, and very intuitive, sort of like Garmin stuff, you don't need to read the manual, it is so well written it flows and is easy to use.

We have the wirie (older, not pro). Works fine, but ...

It is simply an Alfa USB powered adapter (25 bucks on Amazon or ebay) with a decent antenna in a pelican case. For far fewer $$ you can buy the adapter and a good antenna, and replace them every few years, or even set them up in the cabin 80% of the time just fine. For a few (~35$) more you can add the Alfa R36 and have a nice inexpensive hot spot.

Been using these for 6 years and no failures yet. Maybe not the best, but I have had reliable internet from 5 miles out.

PS If using Windows (XP thru 10) the Alfa is dead simple, windows just understands it. Not had to update drivers yet.
